    But I find it IMPOSSIBLE to believe, that before 2014–when Wakeman *also* became the first woman Lieutenant in the ENTIRE HISTORY of the TX Rangers, there was *never* (Ever!?!???🤨🤨🤨) a woman with the qualifications to be promoted to her level.🧐🤔🙄🤬🤬🤬

      …I get why the somewhat empty guesture of nominating Bernie might make sense but I read somewhere that they effectively gave Kaisch more speaking time than they gave her…& that seems harder to justify than the Bernie thing?

        Oh no, I thought. Turns out there is a procedural rule (there are so many at the DNC) that if a primary candidate garners a certain amount of delegate votes they have to be offered up for consideration. They asked AOC to do it. Although she seconded the nomination so someone must have gone first but I missed that. This would explain letting her speak at all and limiting her to pre-recorded 60 seconds. 
         
        This is why President Lyndon Johnson in 1968 said “I will not seek and will not accept the candidacy for the presidency.” He was extremely popular in the party, he had been President of the Senate, he worked (very tendentiously) under St. John of Hyannisport, so he could very well have been drafted. Drafted, this at the height of the Vietnam war, no pun intended. 
         
        I thought it was interesting that Clinton spoke but they only gave him five minutes during the undercard, first hour. Could the Clinton era of the Democratic Party finally be coming to a close after thirty long years?

        • Bill Clinton being a jabroni for the DNC was probably one of the more welcome things of the night.
           
          I mean…Hillary is still showing up tonight, so I don’t think they’re completely gone. But for Bill? I think the #MeToo movement effectively squashed that, and given the fact that Joe has his own allegations floating around, I don’t think he wanted to be tied down to that.
           
          It won’t stop people from screaming at the top of their lungs at Chelsea to never be involved or speak about anything political ever, but it at least signifies that Bill won’t be shoved out onto the national stage as often as he has been before.

        • NBC appears to have kicked off the minicontroversy/confusion, and AOC is furious with them — she says they were told way in advance of the procedural rule behind this AND of her full endorsement of Biden but they still decided to go with this spin.
           
          They eventually published a clarification but I think GOP spinmeisters have been prepping this, NBC decided to enable it, and once NBC took the bait the pack decided to follow.

      • It’s just because literally the only thing the Republicans can come up with as an attack on Joe is that he’s a radical leftist and commie pinko scum or whatever and “He’s gonna let AOC run roughshod all over the country” is the only tagline they can think of. So having her show up an explicitly tying her to Bernie kinda-sorta takes the wind of out those sails.
         
        I’m also kind of at the point where I think AOC’s popularity is somewhat overblown? Like, to the always online set she’s ubiquitous, but I wonder just how well known she is nationally. I think that’s part of the reason why Republicans treating her like the second coming of Stalin haven’t gotten any traction. 
         
        But to Cousin Matthew’s point, I think that headline he’s seeing is very much what the DNC is going after. Tying AOC to Bernie is a better position and gives the Republicans another thing to spin the wheels on.

          …several of the newer women in Congress are highly impressive & I’m inclined to think that some of the reason why is that they “sound” less like “politicians” & more like people…in much the same way that makes folks wish Michelle Obama would get into politics

          …whether it’s AOC clapping back on twitter or Katie Porter schooling people who haven’t done their homework I suspect a good bit of the appeal lies in seeing some of this stuff responded to in a way people relate to on a level that they generally don’t with matters political? 

      • I believe they reduced AOC’s two minutes to one minute in order to increase Colin Powell from one minute to two minutes which I find odd considering Powell hasn’t supported a GOP candidate for over a decade.

        • Well, keep in mind that the corporate wing of the Democratic Party (of which Joe is their current standard bearer) is forever trying to appeal to Republican voters.  The fact that they gave airtime to a sort-of Republican who hasn’t been relevant in at least a decade is just more evidence of how truly out of touch the DNC is.

    could be worse tho…the missus thought it was thursday and went to work on her day off

    in unrelated news…i had to deal with the cops last night….not my favourite passtime…i was just innocently minding my own business having a smoke out front at half past 1 am… you know..as you do… when some fucking asshat decided to steal a bike where i could see him…kinda had to call the cops at that point… gave them the play by play as the dude dragged the bike off to the park to break the lock off
    was pretty funny when he came back to get his own bike and spotted me on the phone near it being all like oh yeah hes coming back now..wearing a white shirt and blue jeans 
    anyhoo..cops turned up 3 minutes later…and then spent about 10 minutes looking for broken bike lock parts before agreeing with me that a bike got stolen and that they should probably go look for the guy….
    dont know why i bother….

      • lol….i live in a very small city that just so happens to have the police regional hq in it…. we have cops up the wazzoo here…and they are bored
        i could probably call them to report a dog pissed in my garden without my consent and they’d turn up to take a statement….
        they still never fucking turn up in time to do anything tho…
        really…what i should have done was hide the dudes bike and then taunt him….probably also wouldnt have helped…but would have been highly entertaining for me

  4. Laura Loomer winning her primary scares the hell out of me. We aren’t going to be rid of these people, the Tea Party’s crazier, more aggressive younger sibling, even if Biden wins. And I’m not convinced he will. 

    • I am predicting now that she will go after Muslim reps in Congress and the media will try to both sides them, suggesting that Islam is some kind of equally radical belief to her toxic idiocy.
       
      Pelosi needs to be prepping a rules package to address her and the Q….n reps who will be in the House next year, and have tactics in place to handle the deliberate chaos they will be inflicting. They will be disrupting procedings by the House and committees next year, they will be hiring lunatics, abusing institutions of the House and violating confidential and classified materials. And the odds are that they will be enabled and shielded by the GOP leadership.
       
      I suspect Pelosi’s instincts are to see what happens and react afterwards. That will be a disaster.

    • Luckily for the Republic her district is very Democratic. The current occupant, Lois Frankel, didn’t even have a Republican opponent in 2018.
       
      It encompasses Palm Beach, where Mar-a-Lago is, and which is now tRump’s official residence. He requested an absentee ballot (good enough for him but evidence of massive voter fraud for the rest of us) and presumably voted for her. She’s as nutty as he is. Did you know she went to Mount Holyoke? This is as surprising as learning that Stephen Miller went to Santa Monica High School. 
       
      More Presidential trivia! There is some discussion about whether Mar-a-Lago can be considered a legitimate place of residence, since it is a hotel/resort. I’m guessing that it can, and there’s precedent. Former President Herbert Hoover lived a long life. He died at 90 in his long-time post-presidential residence at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel. I’m sure he was allowed to vote and no doubt did. He died in 1964, 31 years after leaving the White House. It’s interesting to me that a figure like Herbert Hoover would have been alive to see news footage of the Kennedy assassination, people doing The Twist to Chubby Checker, Elvis appearing on the Ed Sullivan show… 
       
      Maybe being a Quaker contributed to his longevity. We’ve only had two Quaker presidents. Counter-intuitively the other was Richard Nixon, who never exhibited the quietude, humility, and serenity that this non-Quaker associates with them.

      • I am voting for Biden and encouraging everyone I know to do so. Everyone I know would vote Democratic and we live in New York so a Biden win is a given, but I want that vote total disparity to be of historic proportions.
         
        That said, there is a reason why Biden’s nickname was “Senator Joe Biden, D-Large Banks Chartered in Wilmington”. Useless Joe Lieberman, Gore’s VP pick, was called “Senator Joe Lieberman, D-Aetna & Cigna”.

        • Not for nothin’, but, like, can we wait until Joe Biden is actually elected to start getting pre-emptively mad about shit he won’t do? Cuz there’s still a chance that it won’t happen, and I feel like getting disenfranchised with someone who isn’t even in office yet because of what you think might happen is at least part of the reason Trump became a thing in the first place?
           
          And this is the part where I remind people that your job doesn’t end when the election is over if Joe wins. Then it’s up to everyone of us to keep pressure on politicians and make it very clear that just because we voted them in due to an existential threat to our lives, doesn’t mean they get to sandbag us and not do the shit they promised to do.
           
          I feel like getting mad about Democrats maybe not putting the public option or health care first on their agenda when we don’t even know what the make-up of Congress will be or what President will be in office is kinda getting ahead of ourselves.

          • This is the guy who just said he needs the liberal wing of the Party to get elected.  Yet witness the fact that his actions are telling us that we just need to sit down and shut up and vote for him because that’s how it’s always been done.  Go ahead and petition Joe and Congress in 2021 and see where that gets you.  The time to do it has passed yet again.

          • I hear where you are coming from but also believe that politicians are more apt to listen when they are not in office than when they are.  Especially someone that originally claimed he will only stay one term if he wins.  I will happily vote for Joe when my other option is the fucking apocalypse.  I plan on pushing him before, during and after if he wins (which I still think is a stretch with all the evil shit the GOP is doing).  I wouldn’t care if health care was not at the top of the list if we weren’t in the middle of a pandemic.  Everyone needs coverage now to end this shit!  Our numbers are way worst than we are being led to believe because many are dying at home with no coverage and never tested.  I’m far from being disenfranchised, I’m just not going to settle for the lesser of two evils for very long.  I want money & lobbyists out of politics.  Until that happens, I am going to scream at them every time I hear they wrote a check or worst yet, a bill for the government.  If we don’t we are no better than the Trump swamp people.

      • This is exactly fucking it, right here.  The same old bullshit for literal decades while the people who actually get these assholes elected keep getting told to wait our turn, not yet, after this election, blah, blah, blah. The fact that they are perfectly willing to repeat the exact same formula over and over again, no matter how many times they lose tells us exactly where their priorities are.  They don’t care as much about political power as they do about making sure their money train doesn’t stop rolling.

          …however far from where it would be nice to be the whole thing may fetch up at least there’s something to be said for there being some kind of edifice to salvage when it comes to the office of the presidency

      • Costco sells a package with 3 different Field Roast sausages, they are really good.  I make my daughter those every time I make something with meat for the rest of us.

      • Even if I wasn’t an unapologetic carnivore, I wouldn’t eat this shit because I also prefer food that I can recognize.  This garbage is processed into oblivion, and I promise you that in another 10-15 years the nutritional studies will demonstrate just how bad this crap is for the human body.
