2021 Resolutions [NOT 28/12/20]

Hi friends! As 2020 finally draws towards a fucking close, I’ve been thinking about 2021.

I’m a huge believer in not setting crazy goals that I know I will fail on. For example, I know better than to set a goal for weight loss. Or anything super strict with my budget, etc. I need to set attainable and specific goals.

So, for 2021, I have these 3 resolutions.

  1. Pay off the windows I financed last year (before the payments start accruing interest)
  2. Keep working through all the skincare and moisturizer products I overbought in the past few years. I took stock in early 2020 and was like FUCKING YIKES. I’ve been doing well with facial skin care products but haven’t made much of a dent in the gazillion Bath and Body Works moisturizers, etc. Maybe dry skin in January and February will help with this.
  3. Focus on reducing food waste. I need to stick with meal planning and not go off the rails with take out, grocery store deli counter meals, etc. I’m not getting meals out because I don’t have something I couldn’t eat at home, I just want pizza or whatever instead of the leftovers in the fridge.

Anyone else got some resolutions they’re kicking around in their heads? Wanna talk about it?

  1. Organize/donate/declutter and also to get fit and lose some weight.
I did good reading more this year, which I’m glad of. I met my goal of 12+ books this year, so I’m happy. I’ll hit 14 when I finish the one I’m currently reading (probably by tomorrow night).

  2. …I’m not great at making specific resolutions beyond hoping to at least break even with the eternal to-do list that is apparently one of those fixtures of adult life they don’t really like to tell you about when you’re a kid

…but I do have kind of a favorite resolution…in that I’ve always remembered one particular response from one of those new year’s shows where they ask a bunch of random celebreties what their resolution is…don’t remember who said it but it went like this

“to try anything once…except crack ’cause that’s first-time-addictive…& morris dancing ’cause it’s crap”

      • …I was confused for a minute since they were all dressed in black, when they’re generally in white…& there were two women when it’s always men (as I understand it, anyway) but by coincidence I had been going to say the one place they’re kinda cool is in the terry pratchett discworld books…& it turns out some folks have started doing the “dark morris” which I believe he made up in one of those novels

…so yes…I think you might have found the least-worst available example, there

        • I was confused, even more, because WHERE ARE THE BELLS, WHICH OUGHT TO BE MAKING THE FAIRY NOISES As they Dance?!?!????

It’s the BEST part of Morris Dancing, and they’ve left it out!🙃😕🙁

And YES, I’m the weirdo who actually likes watching it at Ren Fest😉

Probably because–even though they are ENTIRELY different, the “rhythm + fun jangly-noises”, and the centuries of tradition in the dances ends up reminding me a bit of a couple of the OTHER (even COOLER!!!!) dances where the performers wear bells…

Ketzal Coatlicue is a local dance troupe here, and they are SO COOL to see in-person–the dancing, the costumes, the drumming, *and* the bells jingling as the dancers move is just neat, and a total sensory treat to get to see😉

          And then, there’s the Jingle Dress dances & traditions💖💖💖;

          There was even a “together and apart” dance, to help send out healing energy, early on in the pandemic this spring;

The sound of Morris Dancing is… different from the other two, the pitch of the bells is a bit higher, because of the bell type.

But when you combine all the sensory aspects of the three types of dances, every one of them can be so neat, to get a chance to watch.

And tbh, maybe because the Jingle Dress dances were the first ones I ever saw irl, it made me love seeing AND hearing The dancers, at the same time😉
Annnnnnd made me the odd one out who actually DOES like watching Morris Dancing, because of the multi-sensory aspect, when you see it live!😉😂🤣

  3. I realized long ago that resolutions are just a way to create guilt to start the year & snowball over time.  I don’t need that shit!  I know I’m flawed, my family knows I’m flawed.  I can only try to not be as much of an asshole next year as I was this year.  Only true resolution I have is to get to see my mom this year & I know I can make that happen as soon as I get my Covid shots.

  4. Add me to the pile of people who don’t care for “resolutions” – I figure if I’m going to do something, I’m going to do it, and the start of some arbitrary calendar isn’t really going to make a difference.
That said, I’m kinda sorta looking forwards to a few things in the near future – hopefully having a quasi-functional government, but a lot of that probably depends on what happens in GA…
Probably won’t happen this year, but once COVID clears up, I want to work up to doing a full bike commute.  Right now, I’m only doing a partial commute, but twixt that and moving heavy stuff around at work, I haven’t lost any weight, but my gut is noticeably flatter.  Might not happen, but I’m kinda hoping with a good bit of daily activity, I’ll be able to sink in water again.

  5. my resolution is to become a hermit
no wait….its to try and not do that
gonna move into a nice little flat…with a balcony…and preferably 2 bedrooms just in case
and try to avoid the crazy
ive never lived completely on my own before…always had at least a housemate or two to keep me grounded
next year should be an interesting experiment…finally science will know what happens when a farscy is left to his own devices

  6. I call my resolutions ‘goals’, that seems to help with the guilt of not achieving and the fun of actually trying. And they are always fun things, nothing that admits to any failings on my part, coz fuck that, I’m old and not realistically going to change now. In 2019 I set 4, and replaced the 19 with 20 January 1, 2020. I knocked 1 off the list in 2020 and sorta did 2 things so I think 2021 is really the year that I sew drapes for the bedroom. The sorta did 2 go back on the list and add 1 because 4 is a nice number.
    1. Bedroom drapes [in my head it is a festival of toile de jouy]
    2. Make more candy
    3. Make more jewelry – specifically earrings
    4. Knit a copy of my 70’s Head Shop Sweater

Key to this system is to make the list on a chalkboard and keep the eraser handy, just in case.
