A Small Request…[Updated]

Hey you there. Yeah, you, faithful reader…

Did you know that we, the Bored of Directors, volunteer our time and not inconsiderable talents and money to keep this site afloat day after day, year after year?

We’ve been covering the fees for DeadSplinter administration, such as:

Annual hosting fee

Annual Domain fee

Annual Plugin fees

Daily backup fees

Equipment upgrades

And many of you have been kind enough to offer a small token to help us. IF you are inclined (zero guilt here, AT ALL), donate to our Go Fund Me here:

Here is the link:

Or PayPal:

https://www.paypal.com/donate/?business=K5HYG97YJUY4N&no_recurring=0&currency_code=CAD

Thank you kindly in advance. As always, we appreciate your continued support of DUAN & DeadSplinter.

PS: it’s in Canadian dollars so it’s not like it’s even ‘real’ money.

[Update 27/10/22]

Thanks to all who are helping out. The site has been moved to its own DNS which will save a significant amount of money – which is very real to Canadians – in the long run. This also means that more can be done in the future including possible sister sites for very little cost or even a new and better version of DS eventually.

Not only is the site automatically backed up on the server every day but there is a bunch of new storage equipment on which manual backups are stored daily as well…and soon battery backups to prevent the happenings of a few weeks ago from happening again.

The goal is posted as $5,000 but only because something had to be put in…anything over the cost of the equipment and the site will either be returned to the senders or saved in a DS fund for future payments/projects (for which we’ll be requesting ideas).

So thanks to all and feel free to tap that donate button before the tragically chic sees the credit card lol

    • In all seriousness I was kind of startled to see that CAN$1 is now at only US 73 cents. People around the world just can’t get enough of our USAmerican greenbacks, despite the fact that we’re heading toward Italian and Greek levels of public debt. We’re just lucky that the euro is so inherently unstable. Signing the Maastricht Treaty did not turn all the Europeans in the EuroZone into thrifty, prudent Germans overnight.

  1. Done, Iโ€™m sorry it couldnโ€™t be more, I shelled out $12,000 for a new heat pump yesterday. Iโ€™ll donate more when I stop hyperventilating over that expenditure. ๐Ÿ˜–

  2. I should be able to contribute more in a few weeks, any chance we can re-post this or drop it as a link in a DOT or something?

I’d love to swear I’ll remember, but we all know better.

  3. i cannot commit to anyhthing till i find out how my new salary stacks up to my new bills

being that i dont know what either of those are going to be yet

if i can and the gofundme is still up by months end i’ll see what i can spare

    • This is not a requirement @Farscythe. Please do not fret about it. You contribute via your witty comments, daily participation, and musical choices! And that goes for all DeadSplinterati – your value to the site is much greater than money. Just put us in your wills ๐Ÿ˜œ.

  4. I wish I could contribute financially, but it’s just not feasible right now. All I can contribute is my appreciation and love for my fellow Deadsplinterites, and the occasional snarky comment!

  5. Running into difficulty (I thiiiiink with the CAD thing, and the fact that the GFM is set up in Canada, most likely?).

It’s a problem I’ve run into before, when ordering something through an educational blogger I follow–my small-town bank apparently works *extra* hard, to keep customers safe, which isย great, except when I WANT to spend money across the border๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ’–

Please keep the post up top for at least a few more days? That way I’ll remember to call between 8 am & 3 pm on a weekday, to have them open up the parameters for a few hours๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ’

Heck, tbh, I’d be fine with it, if y’all wanted to do Public-Radio style “member drives” 3x a year, and could most likely kick in *more* that way, than if we just make it an “annual member drive” for the donations๐Ÿ˜‰

And I compare it to Public Radio, because Deadsplinter *is*a service I value & adore–probably evenย moreย than I *adore* my MPR!๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿ’ž๐Ÿ’—๐Ÿ’“๐Ÿ’๐Ÿ’ซ

  6. I’ll kick in something again.

Also, we should have a bake sale, toward which I can donate one of my delicious (and sexy looking!) strawberries’n’cream jello moulds set in a Bundt pan.
