Any Recent Embarrassments? [NOT 28/11/20]

Me after this afternoon

Hello friends! How is your day going?

Have you managed to say or do anything really embarrassing recently?

Today after getting home from grocery shopping, I saw my neighbor’s cool doggo hanging out on the porch. Just chilling. I got out of my car and grabbed bags and as I’m walking up to my door, I happily yell out “Hello, sweetheart!!!”

And then my neighbor, dude in his late 20s, just stands up from where I couldn’t see him working on something on his porch and gives me a really confused look. I frantically yell out “I was talking to (his dog’s name), not you! Happy Saturday!”

AWKWARD

  1. umm no?
if im understanding the rules of embarrassmenmt (holy wow…..i really fucked up that spelling )
you need to give a fuck in order to be em bare assed (i gave up)
i ran out of fucks a long time ago

  2. I also have one that has to do with dogs. Yesterday I took Cosmo to visit my grandparents dog and while they were licking each other through the backyard fence I was doing some baby talk about how cute they were. I was laying it on pretty thick because I thought I was alone. After a couple minutes I hear a cough, and turn to see my grandparents neighbor sitting at the top of the stairs that lead to his apartment. He totally heard all my baby talk. I was quite embarrassed.

  3. I haven’t so much done anything embarrassing, as I have some people who think they can embarrass me by trying to undo some of my work in a very public manner.  What they fail to understand is that I’m done in three weeks and do.  Not.  Give.  A.  Fuck.  In the meantime, I have the means to prevent what they’re trying to do as long as I’m still fulfilling this responsibility.  The minute I leave, they will be able to do what they want…but I’ll be gone so fuck ’em.  I’m doing what’s right.  They’re doing what’s personal.

  4. The worst thing I have done of late involved a FYCE post. I did my grandmother’s recipe for peanut blossom cookies – you know, the peanut butter cookies with the Hershey’s Kiss in the middle? (Mmmm yummy.) Within the post I busted on folks who made them with just a peanut in the center, in lieu of the chocolate (blasphemy). Whoops – turns out my husband’s beloved late Nana was one of the peanut in the center people. Oops.

    • At least you didn’t peddle fake news not once once but twice in your potatoes au gratin recipe, like I did in mine. I will try to do a modicum of fact-checking before I start making outlandish claims.

The nice thing about being a pandemic shut-in and being NOT extremely online (except for here, pretty much, with GroupThink gone) is that the potential for embarrassment is small. The dog will never tell and The Better Half will never notice.

  5. not quite embarrassing YET, because I caught myself, and checked what time it was, before I emailed a stranger, out of the blue, after midnight, on a Saturday night😉
I’ll be writing the email & sending it at a “normal people” time of the day, tomorrow, thankyouverymuch!
But i’ma talk about it here, a bit tonight, because the young woman I’ll be emailing about is someone who NEEDS to be gotten back to her family.
They’re out there, somewhere. She has a mom, probably sisters, and by now, even nieces & nephews who all wonder where she is & why she’s still gone.
Her NAMUS numbers are #UP3043, and to folks in WI, and MN, she’s known as the Fond du Lac Coubty Jane Doe.
Hunters found her body, 12 years ago, this past week, and she was killed sometime during the summer/fall of 2008.
At first, it was thought that she was Caucasian, but an anthropologist from one of the WI Universities analyzed her bones, and came up with the likelihood that she’s Native, or possibly Latinx or Asian. Originally, investigators thought she may be from the Midwest, but they were able to do some forensic analysis a couple years ago, and it was learned that she grew up in the region from Flagstaff AZ, to Las Cruces/Albuquerque NM…. most of that area is Dine land (Navajo, and Hopi reservations cover MUCH of the area), so there COULD be a really good chance of her being Native.
She only spent about a year (from ’07-08), up here in the Midwest–somewhere between Northern Iowa, Southeastern MN, and Southwestern WI.
The woman I’m planning to send the email to, is a Doctoral student, and researcher whose work deals with Missing & Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit people (MMIWG2).

At one time, she was compiling a list of the women, girls, and Two-Spirit People who were missing, and I’m going to be emailing to see if she would perhaps have a place to *start* looking for missing young women in Jane Doe’s age range.

The NAMUS site’s missing women in her age & LDC (last date of contact) range haven’t been matches, so I’m hoping that someone out in the AZ/NM area, perhaps has contact info for the Dine folks who have names of young women & girls who are missed, and who haven’t ever been entered into the NAMUS site.

    Why?

It’s simple, really. She was a daughter, a sister, a niece, and a cousin.
People LOVED HER, and someone, somewhere, misses her.
Just like Jacob Wetterling’s family loved & missed him–as did his friends. And we all hoped that someday, he’d come home, and that his family could finally get answers. (They DID, and Jacob’s killer will be in prison for the rest of his life. We as Minnesotans finally learned what happened, just a couple years ago.)
And Jodi Huisentruit is another reason that the FdL Jane Doe has stuck with me, for the last 12 years, too.

Jodi was a graduate of Long Prairie High School, just a couple towns away from my hometown, and she became a reporter for our local ABC station, KSAX, after she graduated from college.
She was the reporter who came to our school, to interview people when there was a news story–or who you saw do the “five minutes of LOCAL news” during the morning & evening broadcasts…
Then she got a big break, and was hired at a bigger station down in Iowa…. and then she went missing, a few years after Jacob did (she’d reported on Jacob’s kidnapping, MANY times, as the local reporter)…

They’ve never found Jodi, but her family was able to have her declared dead a few years back, so that they could get her legal affairs all taken care of.

But those two folks going missing, and what happened, when Lorenzo Doby died, meant that, when the young woman was FOUND, over in Fond du Lac county, it was impossible for me (and MANY OTHERS!) to forget about her.

Because we’ve SEEN what it’s like, when a family is missing their loved one…
And since we KNOW she’s up here–and now we know where she’s FROM, there might just be an opportunity to get her back home, to the folks who love & miss her.

So in that spirit, I’m going to be reaching out to that researcher, hoping she can perhaps point me in the right direction…
Because 12 years is SO long, to be missing your sister, and wondering where she may be.

She deserves to get back home, to her family.

And since there don’t seem to be many leads the typical way, with the NAMUS, FBI, and NCMEC databases, perhaps an emailed “shot in the dark” might spark a tiny bit of light, that could get reflected around & eventually shine enough light to get her back home💖💞💗

    • Seriously EmmerdoesNOTrepresentme, you are good peeps! Now, we shall keep this daughter in our daily prayers and hope your most-kind intentions leads to bringing her home, to her family.

    • A very good friend of mine disappeared in 1996 when we were in 7th grade. She was never found and no one was ever charged, though the step-dad was what you might call a person of interest. Her case has been on America’s Most Wanted and Nancy Grace. They even used a psychic ffs. I have no idea how a person could literally disappear, though I have a hypothesis that she was trafficked out of the country. So, thanks for doing all this for a stranger.

      • Oh, PS, I’m SO so sorry that happened to your friend💔
I hope that someday, the case breaks wide open, y’all can finally get some answers, and that there is justice for her.💖💞💗

  6. it’s FAR, far too many.
I follow Delores Schilling over on Twitter, and have for a long time, now, and I’ve learned sooooo much from her, about MMIW, and the absolute hash the US & Canadian Governments have made, of keeping Native women safe.
