Arrrgghhhh [NOT 12/5/26]

Hi, friends! It’s unplanned cleaning project time at chez moi.

I thought I had some little mealy bugs in one are of my kitchen because it’s where I stored sweet potatoes over the winter, nope. Then I cleaned up the bugs again and thought oh it’s because I lazily left an open bag of potting soil right there since I was planting seeds for the veggie garden. So I tossed the bag outside and cleaned up the dead buggies again.

Today, I was refilling my spice jars and went to move something in the pantry and found a bunch of dead ones. Which means of course there are more mealy bugs in there.

And fuck me, found them. I’ve only had time to get part of the pantry cleaned out, but it’s where the grains are and I feel like that’s the snack area.

In other news, some of my pantry storage is now in the trash because clearly what I thought was airtight was not. I’ve got so much more to go through and hopefully just find dead ones to clean out. I think I might just take a sick day tomorrow to deal with it, because it’s not like I can just do it piece meal since if there are other snack spots (and I have suspicions) then the infestation will just still be there.

Ugh, adulting. The good news? Thanks to having bedbugs years ago I’m just annoyed and not freaked out about this? It could be so much worse than lil mealy bugs in the pantry.

How is your week going? Any unexpected tasks come your way?

  1. We have so many mealy bugs in my wife’s house plants & greenhouse that we buy more Neem oil than many small countries. I think she also uses rubbing alcohol? I would kick out all her plants if I find them in the pantry! We had ricewevils & flour beetles in Hawaii if u didn’t put everything in air tight containers or the fridge. It was awful. Good luck ridding your house of them!

  2. I understand. I spent last year cleaning out the mice spots in the basement and upstairs of my parents home.

I still haven’t finished because I still the very back of the basement to do, but that isn’t going to happen till I move in, but that isn’t going to happen till the kitchen construction is finally done.

  3. As for tasks, I finally got my new computer hooked up and all the updates are done including my MS Office shite moved over.

I could have waited a couple of months, but I decided that I would buy it before the helium gas shortage (used in IC manufacturing) caused by Trump’s inept war on the strait of Hormuz and RAM/IC shortage caused by AI motherfuckers and spiking fuel costs would cause the prices of any home electronics to spike up.

Also a fantastic reminder that I definitely should have cleaned out all the clutter in that pantry a long time ago and look at me now. Dealing with a problem that could have been much less annoying had I cleaned that shit out last year or whenever.
