Dear friends,
It’s time to debate the things that matter.
What donut is your preference, and why?
Old fashioned donuts, because they’re light and fluffy? Denser cake donuts? Powdered or sprinkled?
Do you rock the old school styles, like crullers or apple fritters??
Long Johns, with the bigger surface area?
Donut holes/Timbits for our Northern friends? I do admit I love how easy those are to snack on.
Filled donuts, like jelly donuts or malasadas? Old school beignets?
Something else?
Let us discuss.
And no, this post totally wasn’t inspired by me getting a donut at the gas station today. Absolutely unrelated.
Krispy Kreme glazed donuts served warm are the Platonian ideal of a donut. I have spoken.
Dunkin glazed is inferior, but I do like their jelly-filled donuts.
Cake donuts are an abomination. In any form.
Never understood the hype of Krispy Kreme, way overrated.
Agree with you 100% about Krispy Kremes. Not a fan, sit like a ball of lead in the stomach.
You just joined Butcher and Loveshaq on my list.
Seriously? Have you actually eaten them fresh and warm? Glorious.
Not for me, they just don’t sit well.
WHAT IS EVEN HAPPENING HERE NOW MY LIST IS ALL FUCKED UP
We can’t be friends.
Haupia Malasadas are the most amazing thing ever & if you get it w/ Li Hing sprinkled on top, even better!
Hell yeah can’t beat a malasada!
Dunkin Donuts are shit. They used to better back in the day.
Tim’s used to be made in house, but then they went to frozen and reheated in the similar “ovens” that Subway uses for their bread and they’ve never the same.
Is that why they suck now? I used to buy their boxes of 20 for road trips to Toronto (around 20 years ago). I tried them recently and was wondering if I just got a stale batch.
Yes. They did in 2010.
When I was a kid, I loved their pink glazed half sprinkled donuts.
I can bake cake donuts without too much trouble. I’m going for deep fried.
I like the following:
Timmy Ho’s Honey Crueller
Double Chocolate
The Long John
Yeah… I am aware of what this might appear to be, but I’m willing to risk it.
I don’t like most jelly filled because the jelly is too sweet for my taste.
Cream filled Long John’s are amazing! Chocolate covered ones are even better!
no
I’ll see your double chocolate and raise you to devil’s food with chocolate glaze.
Hijack: There’s a comet in the western sky for the next few days that won’t be back this way for 80,000 years. So this is your one. The tail is crazy long.
Thanks! I tried to go look tonight but between the bright moon and the light pollution, I can’t even find Venus tonight. The nearby school with the field lights on for the soccer games isn’t helping. Hopefully tomorrow is better.
My friends told me they were hijacking my deck over the weekend while I was gone to watch it but never saw it. We had the aurora here last week but now the clouds are rolling in so no comet. It looks like it has been pretty cool in Hawaii

I’ll look for it. I still remember Hale-Bopp. That was incredible
Not for everyone…

I remember seeing that one while riding a ferry w/ my parents visiting right after sunset. It was very impressive.
This was actually my first comet. I remember wanting to see Halley’s as a little kid, but by the time it rolled around I was neck-deep in teenage angst and didn’t give a shit.
When Hale-Bopp came by, the last thing I cared about was a fucking comet.
So, this time I made a point to stand outside for a good while and enjoy myself.
I don’t eat donuts any more, but if I did, I would get them from Carol Lee’s donuts on Main Street in Blacksburg, Virginia.
They smell so good.
If you’re skipping the sugar, savory donuts can be amazing.

If I can’t dunk ’em in coffee, they’re not donuts.
Jelly all the way
Maple bars and double chocolate.
