…& I don’t know how big of a deal it is in the States that the world no longer contains Alan Parker so this might mostly serve to wind up poor myo with references to musicals that aren’t Hamilton…but here we go, anyway

The Commitments is such a good movie! And The Road to Wellville. I think he should have apologized for some of the stuff in Midnight Express but all in all he was an excellent film maker.
…I know I get mixed up in my head between midnight express & mississippi burning but I suspect you’re right that here & there some bits might not stand up so well nowadays
…but that the same guy did bugsy malone, angelheart, fame, birdy & pink floyd’s the wall is still amazing to me?
Mississippi Burning and Birdy are also incredible movies. The Midnight Express stuff even drew criticism from the real Billy Hayes. I don’t think Parker was doing it out of any racist tendencies, he was just trying to create villains. But he painted with too broad a brush.
My daughters tell me that life will cease to exist if Trump kills Tik Tok. Not sure what my wife will do either, she spends a scary amount of time on it. It will bring out young voters though.
