Hi, friends!
I hope your weekend went well.
Tonight’s topic is what chores or activities do you get annoyed at having to babysit?
I had 2 loads of sheets and towels to wash today, and both those are things that often make the washer go off-cycle. Deep sigh, can’t run errands until those are done. Also cooking a pot of beans on the stove which takes a few hours – no real babysitting there, just need to sit around and enjoy how amazing they smell.
Usually laundry. Waiting for the machine to finish its cycle can be really irritating when I am doing something else. It usually buzzes when I deep in the middle of something… Damn Murphy’s Law.
Neither the washer nor the dryer buzzes when it’s done and I love it. Although sometimes I do forget that I need to go change laundry out.
First Cold November Rain… And it pisses me off that most everyone today is driving like it is snow.
Again I get that you can’t drive as fast as dry roads but also driving 40kph below what everyone is doing scares the shit out of me too. If only people recognized they shouldn’t be on the goddamn road in those conditions.
Lots of delusional people.
But but but there could be a random patch of black ice despite the fact that it’s not below freezing outside and you just never know!
Also I dread the first snowfall of the year for the same reason of everyone forgetting that they had some semblance of knowledge about how to drive in snow.
For the record, that washer was a little angel today and did not go offcycle even once when I was doing those laundry loads.
For the loads that have a habit of getting out of balance, I just turn the spin speed down a notch and that usually takes care of it.
That makes sense. I don’t have any way to change speeds though on my old washer.
The dreaded OS update — there’s always the nagging worry that something will mess up if you delay it until 3 am so you should bite the bullet and do it while you’re up, and cross your fingers that it’s a quick one.
Nope. Can’t bring myself to deal with that. So I just take my chances with the overnight update.
I love shutting down my work-provided laptop during an update solely because of the potential joy of it not working the following morning.
Laundry for me too but because the damned washing machine NEVER runs the time on the display. It will get down to six minutes which is just before the final spin, and then it will reset to like 20 minutes and go again. I’ve had some larger loads run for two fucking hours.
So it’s sentient and has decided to fuck with you.
Precisely.
Fermentation is another, come to think of it, whether it’s bread, beer or pickles. There’s the initial point where you wonder if it will take off, then toward the end where it’s slowing down and you’re not completely sure it will finish.
Sauerkraut is a wonderfully fast fermentation. You know within a few days if it’s going to work and then it’s just *eh, any time after about 2 weeks is fine, with longer ferments turning out better kraut.*
We got some kraut going now that’s going to be killer.
Just cabbage and salt, or do you add stuff like caraway or garlic?
I add a little bit of shredded carrot and then also caraway.
There you go!
This batch is just cabbage and salt.
You’re right, but I still hold my breath until it’s done. I just had a bunch of homemade with some fresh local kielbasa that made a good dinner.
slow cooked meat is torture
and you have to sit in that smell for hours…..
also…and totally unrelated…. my youtube feed is wierder than average at 05:45
This, plus the constant temperature measuring and charcoal management means I can’t leave the house for hours.
