Hi, friends!
How is your day? Anything good happen?
Tonight’s theme is bad ideas. Fucking bad ideas. The ones you know are bad but you’re stuck with them anyways.
Brought to you by my dealing with the decision of the big bosses to change our schedule so we’re shoving a code release live 5 days early and with no time for regression testing. The best testing happens in production, right?!
Well, today was the first day of an in-person criminal trial I’m interpreting for in Clayton all this week. I’d decided to take MetroLink there and back – which was decidedly a good idea. But due to the fogginess over my glasses and the sun blocking me from seeing which train was coming, as well as the fact that the time change was fucking all my shit up in general, I got on the Red Line instead of the Blue Line. So, once it stopped at the notoriously sketchy Delmar Loop station, I had to get the fuck out and amble my way to Skinker to get on the right track again. So, I was slightly late when the lady who’d come back from retirement was there to show off the fancy wireless headset/microphone combo that she’d brought us to use. But by the time the proceedings started, we’d figured out that the shit didn’t really work all that well anyway and opted for the Radio Shack stereo amplified listener that the other interpreter’d brought with her.
Hahahaha the fancy new thing didn’t work! Also I’d be worried the charge would die out before you were done for the day with that wireless headset thing.
Glad you didn’t have to stay at the sketchy Delmar station for long.
Oof, I hope that goes well.
I took Fanny to get her nails trimmed after our morning walk. She didn’t pee on the floor this time ‘cause she’s a big brave girl! We ran a few errands and she was so good we went to Starbucks to get her a Pup Cup. I tried the pistachio latte that @hammerzeitgeist told me about. I liked the nutty flavor but boy was it sweet.
I also pee on the floor when I get my nails cut.
Marrying my first wife.
Kermit is me today. Keeping my eldest home from school to avoid contracting norovirus is feeling like a bad idea. Not restocking on red wine is also a bad idea.
According to SOMEONE apparently it is a bad idea to euthanize a pet yourself?
…am I missing something?
I would not recommend doing it Old Yeller style. Maybe if you are emotionally strong enough, you could have the Vet insert the intravenous port and then push the syringe down yourself at home.
I found a place that goes to your house since my OC.
I think that’s a wonderful service. I’m sorry that you are at that stage of your pet’s life.
Oh no, I’m sorry myo.
My heart 💔
I feel for you, myo.
Oh, my friend. Hugs to you.
Super-sorry, @myopicprophet. We did just that with Laika, whom I mentioned in a previous post. Vet and tech came to the house, and as sad as it was, it was also nice in that the dog was unstressed.
I’m sorry for your loss.
Sorry, Myo, losing them sucks!!!💔💞💗
I hope that when you do get there, things go well & smoothly, and that it’s as good & easy an end as your 4-legged heart can possibly have💝
I dunno. Making a time to interview me and not calling?
…I nominate whatever the hell decision apple took about whatever the hell it is that means a slice of their users for about three or four iterations of their OS have had to deal with absurd memory leaks…particularly when they happen with apple’s own software?
…so…say you have mail running & somehow within a minute or two it claims that it needs something like 50GB of “application memory”…so several multiples of the physical RAM it’s possible to install in what I’m pretty sure are the majority of the models they offer currently…& when you interrogate the process the program is running it claims to be using virtual memory approximately twice the capacity of the entire hard drive
…& that’s with one measly IMAP email account fed into it that…& I can’t stress this enough…doesn’t have nearly that much email in it…although since the memory leak ramps up just as quickly even with the account deactivated that part is presumably beside the point
…I’m not sure I’m adequately conveying quite what a sorry-assed mess I’m trying to describe but it is about as far from “it just works” as I can think of?
if you want assistance, lmk.
going to work today seems like a terrible idea….never ending rona pocalypse over there
best i can figure we’ve currently got 15 people home sick with it at mo…its best i can figure coz the rules changed…nowadays you dont need to get tested if you’ve been in close contact with someone who’s got it unless you have symptoms
which HR took to mean they no longer need to tell anyone who’s tested positive today…hell..i had to argue with the HR woman to be allowed to take a self test…
apparently you must also be at least *this* symptomatic to test…
im not getting paid enough for this shit
