Better Late than Never [NOT 27/1/22]

Hi, friends!

Sorry this is late, I worked late.

Tell me something that made you happy today. I was watching birbs at the feeders today and spotted that I have two northern flickers hitting my suet feeders! TWO!!! I put a second suet feeder out last fall because I was seeing a few different species of woodpeckers, plus sometimes a sparrow or starling would snack on it, so I wanted a second option to reduce wait times for hungry birbs.

Anyways, today was the first time I saw two of them at the same time and they’re my favorite of the larger birbs. They have a bright red stripe along the back of their necks, a pretty black bib, neat spotted patterns on their bellies, and when they fly off I see the yellow undersides of their tail feathers.

  1. My boss came back from vacation today.  While he was gone I had to make a bunch of unilateral decisions about this major project he wanted me to get ready for launch by 2/1 so I wasn’t sure how he would react to them.  Overall, he was very happy with it, which means no major redesigns for me.

  2. As I was driving my kid home from preschool, I saw old man walking a dog suddenly start shaking and then collapse on the sidewalk. I pulled over to help him. He said he had suffered from a dizzy spell which were becoming more frequent. I helped him get up (which was a big struggle due to our relative sizes and my hip problem) and walk to his car so that he could call his son.

The not so good part of the story is that I flagged down another pedestrian for help. There was no way I could prevent the old man from falling again if he had another dizzy spell. But the pedestrian was a hipster douche and treated us like lepers. He begrudgingly offered to walk the tiny obedient dog to the car. Luckily, the old man was feeling more stable and only needed me to support him by the arm.

I get that Covid is a real concern and that the old man wasn’t wearing a mask. But both I and the douche were masked and this was outdoors. And just like fuck you for being so minimally helpful.

  3. My dog makes me happy. She’s such a big goofball. Every night after she goes out for the last pee of the night she gets Ben and Jerry’s for dogs. Then she goes wild, runs around the house, pulls toys out of the toy box, we play, she gets all her zoomies out, collapses on her bed and zonks out. I love having her near me, snoring and making her little dreaming noises.

  4. today candy finally started sleeping in the cat bed

it only took 5 years of moving it around the room and trying all the choice spots

turns out it wasnt a location problem

candy deemed the cat beds pillow to be unworthy….put one of the blue pillows from the sofa in the bed and suddenly its the best thing ever…

    …..cats are fussy little bastards…lol
