Hi, friends! It’s Wednesday – we’re halfway through the week.
We having had a bragging post in a while, let’s fix that.
Tell us something you’re proud of that you’ve done lately or will be doing soon. You’re fucking awesome, let us know about it!
My veggie garden is coming in fucking hot this summer – everything is doing surprisingly well! I skipped the stuff that always struggles, after a few seasons of trying it’s like eh fuck it why waste the space.
The smartest thing financially I’ve done is I stopped listening to financial industry shills and idiots. When I reviewed my semi-abandoned retirement accounts this summer, my pivot to market ETFs 13 years ago paid off more than spreading my money around in various Mutual Funds (diversify they said… so to take more fees from me) as I did when I started my RRSPs 30 years ago.
I wish I had done that sooner… including my current retirement plan, but I was still in a survivor state of mind 10 years ago and not thinking about the future, mostly the here and now hand to mouth… It took a while but I did change my plan around to ETFs. Several years later, someone asked about my rate of return I told them (I shouldn’t have but I did-flex? maybe) and they were stunned because it was nearly double theirs. I suddenly got bothered by a lot of folks asking for advice (I told them what I did, but most didn’t listen… can’t help that.)
Still doesn’t make up for the retirement money lost in 2008/9 (nothing will) but the fact that the financial industry isn’t getting rich off me… well, that’s something.
That’s awesome! I feel like ETFs and index funds get overlooked because everyone has heard of mutual funds for a few decades now.
I was lazy when I did my 401 Ks and hated the idea of giving money to managers, so I dropped mine in a single simple index fund and left it there. Turned out just fine.
My company’s 401ks are put in targeted index funds based on how many decades until we’re retirement age. It’s just easier all around.
I have only brag adjacent stuff. My daughters are the most amazing young women I could have ever imagined & my wife is a local legend & my hero.
I got my 10,000 steps in today and put down vinyl flooring for the pen for the five puppies my wife is going to foster. I think she’s kind of nuts.
5 puppies! Is the momma doggo with them too?
Congrats on having a bunch of foster fails in a few months. 🙂
They’ve all been weaned and presumably ready to be kicked out of the nest, so mom’s out of the picture.
I’m very good at teaching Tai Chi. My classes are all at full capacity and most of my students have been with me for years.
That’s super cool! I’m glad folks have such a great teacher when they come to your classes!
I’ve got a 17-day walking streak going; hoping I can get it to 30. Our air is finally starting to clear up a bit.
