Brands and Attachments [NOT 7/10/24]

Hi, friends!

How is your day going?

Lately I’ve been using a drugstore brand face lotion and it was an effort to buy it.

It’s not that I don’t buy generics for all sorts of products, but skin care and hair care? Oooof no brand name, and typically prestige brand.

I think it’s because I’m at that age that experienced firsthand the transition from wow okay we can get the St Ive’s scrub at Walgreens that shreds your face or ok there’s the 4 different Clinique options, but basically fuck all for good options to *cue heavenly music* goes into a Sephora for the very first time and sees a ton of cool shit that’s omg so much higher quality than the Walgreens stuff.

So there’s a mental block to consider that Cetaphil or Neutrogena as decent quality, but you know that’s stupid of me. So anyways, I got a good new moisturizer at CVS for a third of what I’d pay at Sephora.

So, friends, do you have something you have come around to for a generic or different tier of products for? Something that was a shit brand when you were younger but did an overhaul and now is worth it?

Conversely, is there something that boggles your mind that is popular now? We keep laughing about how the Champion brand is expensive now for the youths and for our childhoods it was the cheap shit from Kmart.

  1. My wife swears Cetaphil is the best skin lotion & my dermatologist suggested it when my feet start cracking in the summer.  Plus at Costco we get a huge supply for very little.  I don’t understand Lululemon.  Take my wife & daughters there & even at the outlet a headband is like a car payment!  You can buy the exact same tights at Amazon w/out the logo for $10!  I’m glad my wife taught my daughters to be thrifty w/ clothes.

  2. I tend toward prefering the cheap harsh cleaning stuff that seems to strip all oils from me.

So Suave shampoo and Ivory soap have been my go tos forever. I have no idea if that makes sense, but my skin and scalp don’t peel so that’s what I do.

  3. Yeah, I’ll never be a “brand” guy but over time you do eventually figure out that some really are better than the off-brand variant … or vice-versa. My wife swears by Cetaphil and has tried probably 99% of all the world’s lotions in coming to that opinion.

  4. i still dont get old spice

    its uhh…not a pleasant smell to me…

    beats old sweat i guess….but barely…

    but anyways…..theres only 2 things im brand loyal about…. 3m tape..and wd40

coz they consistently do exactly what they are supposed to

(im not saying theres no offbrand stuff that performs like them….buuut…results may vary….and with tape and lubricants…thats bad)
