bueller…?

anybody...?

…I kinda have to be someplace so I don’t aim to make a production out of it or anything…but…monday has come for us all & there looks to be a gap between the NOT (many happy returns to @luigi-vuoto) & the devoutly-to-be-wished coffee break in a few more hours

…but…that doesn’t always mean there isn’t a DOT about to burst into view anyway…just that it would have to be a work in progress that doesn’t show up in the drafts list

…so…this is just in case it doesn’t…or until it does

…I mean…it’s monday…probably best to start small & work up to coffee?

  1. The biggest, most important political trial of 2024 begins today, one that will likely reshape the presidential election, will no doubt swing voters on its outcome and could possibly have global ramifications: Hunter “Professor Moriarty” Biden goes on trial

WaPo’s political coverage is about to get much, much worse: Editor Sally Buzbee steps down, will be replaced by former Murdoch guy. It’s because the paper lost a bunch of money and is shitting itself down a toilet by promising to use more AI (my eyeroll can currently be seen from space) and not because they sat on “Alito’s a wannabe Jan. 6er” for several years because Kathleen Parker is pals with the family, as she noted in a weekend vomit column.

Mexico gets first female president: Good for them, but I’d also be doubly worried if Trump got elected because he already wanted to war crime the country; now he’s gonna want to do it even worse.

We grow ever closer to the restoration: Edmonton makes the Stanley Cup finals, looks to be the first Canadian team to win it in more than three decades.

    • I prefer to think of Hunter as Renfrew, who roams the globe living the high life and occasionally duking 10% back to The Big Guy, the Lord of Darkness himself. (/s. I feel obliged to add that.)

What a moron. Joe Biden must be among the most patient and loyal parents who ever lived. If Hunter had my parents he would have been—not dead, maybe, but put on a tight leash—long ago.

    • That Washington Post deal makes me wonder if Bezos is looking to just dump it on some right wing billionaire after the election. Very possibly Murdoch himself, although I don’t know if there are some issues with the family and inheritance splits which make that difficult.

Speaking of which, Murdoch married a 67 year old Russian yesterday, and details are awfully sketchy.

      https://edition.cnn.com/2024/06/02/media/rupert-murdoch-elena-zhukova-wife/index.html

      https://www.nytimes.com/2024/06/02/style/rupert-murdoch-wedding.html

Elena Zhukhova had once been married to Alexander Zhukov, who is described as a “billionaire energy investor” and her daughter was once married to Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich. Supposedly she and Murdoch met through his former wife Wendy Deng.

Considering what Murdoch has done for decades to the rest of the press, it’s nuts how he’s getting such soft focus coverage, but of course the execs feel loyalty to a club member is what matters even when he drives death threats and worse to them.

      • Going *Full* Tinfoil-hat, I do find it FASCINATING that the new wife is Russian, and that he met her via Wendy…

*Especially* in light of that whole kerfuffle a few years back, of, iirc, Wendy being friends with ‘Vanky, and potentially being *some* sort of Liason between the Trump/Kushners, and Pooty-Poot/The Oligarchy (Deng was *rumored* to be Pooty-Poot’s Paramour (*Girl*friend seems slightly ridonkulous to say, when speaking of someone of the ages & fashion-icon status of many of the Former Mrs. Murdochs–Luke Deng & Jerry Hall!)

        • Last year he was engaged for a couple of weeks to a right wing talk radio host before calling it off.

          https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2023/04/rupert-murdoch-engagement-off

But just like his new wife, details about what was going were incredibly scarce. The basic question of whether he’s even competent seems off limits and whether his family stepped in to block it were never reported.

What’s ridiculous is that Murdoch burned his right to immunity decades ago. The phone hacking and illegal investigations that he knew about and encouraged still haven’t been resolved.

And it’s not like the press in general holds any kind of automatic respect for persinal privacy around weddings. When Biden hosted a private wedding for his niece, the White House press corps was livid that it was closed to the press.

  2. Lightning round:

U.S. “expects” Israel to accept cease-fire deal if Hamas does: I’ll believe it when I see it.

1 person killed, 26 wounded in mass shooting: This sounds like a 90s-era gang violence fever dream — a drive-by of a party and the guests started firing back to no avail — so I doubt we’re going to nationally care about this shooting, but holy hell it sounds like a nightmare.

Will and Jada show up together; No slaps reported: For the gossip mill.

Social media destroys everything it touches: This story should be instructive, but I doubt it will be taken as such.

Trump says trial, conviction was “very hard” on Melania: So hard that she never showed up once at his trial, which was a big deal (although not NEARLY as big a deal as underworld titan Hunter Biden’s trial.)

And because we must, baby turtle content:

  3. Sprots-adjacent. This is a really good statement about Trump’s bullshit.

“It’s not bad for me!” Colin Cowherd calls BS on Trump’s anti-America rants

“I’ve said this about Trump before. He’s trying to sell me an America that doesn’t exist. He’s trying to sell me this America stinks and I just don’t see it.

“I don’t see crime. I’m not stumbling over homeless people. I see happy people. Dodger Stadium’s full — leads major league baseball in attendance. Laker games are full. NFL games are full. People have money in their pocket. LAX is packed. I just saw record airline revenue over the weekend.

“Donald Trump is now a felon. His campaign chairman was a felon. So is his deputy campaign manager, his personal lawyer, his chief strategist, his National Security Adviser, his Trade Advisor, his Foreign Policy Adviser, his campaign fixer, and his company CFO. They’re all felons. Judged by the company you keep. It’s a cabal of convicts.”

      • The whole “everything is terrible” shitstorm is extremely frustrating to me because I keep hearing it from MAGA relatives. “Oh my God, why are you going to New York City? Please, please, please be careful. Stay in your hotel. Don’t go outside.” On and on and on.

I’m like, what are you talking about? “Well it’s so dangerous there. All kinds of crime and murders and robberies.”

For the record, I had a lovely time, rode both trains and subways without the slightest issue (even at NIGHT OH MY GOD), and saw no crime whatsoever. FOX NEWS LIED!

    • I find it horrifying, yet amusing, when that jackwagon, Nowhere (Keeping THAT autocorrect!!😆😂🤣) *Cowherd* and I agree on something like the overhyping of “CRIME IN THE CITIES!!!!”😂😂😂

Of course, I *do* live in the Whittier neighborhood of Minneapolis (yes, the shooting that some of y’all may have heard about, where the young police officer (Jamal Mitchell) was murdered *was* just a handful of blocks away–literally up the street, and across it from my building… *BUT* that sort of situation *also* cam happen ANYWHERE, as the murder of officer Owen showed last year.🫤

We liberals in Minneapolis joke *OFTEN* about how we can’t remember if it’s *Our* block that’s up next on the rotation to be burned & looted *this* week/today, or not–since *apparently* we are “living in a war zone” and “on fire” (which *IS* admittedly pretty flippant, considering what’s happening in Gaza & Ukraine… but we’re ALSO incredibly *tired* of there STILL being soooo many idiots who think that 4 YEARS after May 2020, this city is *somehow* stuck in May/June 2020🙃🫠

As I’ve *said* here, on the old Gawkerverse, and IRL for *years* now–The Problems are the SAME, up home, and down here–drugs, poverty, lack of education, lack of resources, mental illness, etc–it’s *LITERALLY* just a difference of the scale, because of the differences in population.

    • That dipshit is stuck at stupid* 13 yr old boy mentality. So of course he wants adult content on Twitter.

*There’s tons and tons of 13 yr old boys more intelligent and mature that Musk, I really do mean just the really stupid immature ones.
