Casual Sprots Viewing [NOT 13/9/22]

Hi, friends!

Are you a fan of live sports? Do you have any sports you love watching in person? Or are you like me — if the company is good, you don’t care what you’re watching?

Similary is there something where there is no possible way to make you enjoy watching it?

  1. I enjoy big stadium sports only if I have really good seats or a suite.  Otherwise, better to watch from home.  I love watching volleyball live, men’s, women’s, indoor or beach.  Nothing beats being on the beach for the Pipe Masters, unbeatable scene.

    • My God those waves are terrifying. It’s incredible that so many of the Pacific Islands got populated given that people were migrating hundreds of miles in…longboats, I think they might be called? Outrigger canoes?

      • The Polynesians were crazier than the Vikings & sailed in small voyaging canoes.  Nainoa Thompson brought back the ancient navigation techniques of those voyagers & has sailed around the world navigating by the stars.

  2. From time to time I walk past a Division 3 college’s field and catch a little bit of their sports — soccer, baseball, football, lacrosse.

It’s very low stakes — none of the men or women are going to turn pro. But they’re still good athletes, and it’s fun to watch. They care, so I care, and getting so close to the action is a thrill.

  3. I hate watching sports in general other than volleyball and sometimes tennis but I don’t seek them out. I have enjoyed watching hockey at a bar during playoffs if my team is in the running or live at the stadium. I’ve also enjoyed watching F1 races when someone passionate about it was giving me a running commentary. A big fun factor requirement is alcohol and social ambiance.

  4. Just the tennis for us. Nowadays there’s an open somewhere almost every week, so there’s no end to it. Really, the only ones that count (for us anyway) are the Big Four, the French, the Australian, Wimbledon, and our own beloved New York.

In 2020 we actually had plans to attend the French Open in person: a college buddy was going to lend us his Paris apartment, I was on the verge of buying the passes, when word started spreading about this mystery flu. Then a case showed up in New York and hard hit was northern Italy, and I was watching Italian website videos of locked-down cities and we thought, “What if it spreads to Paris?” Ha ha.

  5. Mrs. Butcher and I watch football, but on a super casual basis.  So casual, that we had no idea that Buck and Aikman had moved to ESPN.  Anyway, Mrs. Butcher likes to take football naps and I will often futz with my phone while the game is on.  Like I said, super casual.

  6. I watch college basketball and I used to like going to baseball games but it’s been years since I’ve been to one. I should go to a couple of minor league games this summer.

  7. Yes to hockey, or rugby. No to baseball, I find it to be so slow and boring (sorry, I understand that sentiment is blasphemy to many.) A friend still box scores with pencil and paper at pro games; he and his family love baseball.

  8. Having attended a few, I cannot reccommend the US Open tennis enough.

Still want to see either the World Cup or Olympics at a non-problematic host, though.

One visit to a college football game in the South pretty much killed my desire to see any other sports event in the US.

  9. Basketball is my favorite to watch, buuuut since KG left the league (retired) i haven’t watched much…

    But FBI raids?

I could watch THAT, alllll day!

It was *HARDEES,* (not Arby’s!)  Lindell got his phone seized at the Hardees (probably in *North Mankato,* apparently the one off highway 169) not Mankato.

    Man-Kay-Toe is how it’s pronounced (Man-Kay-Dough, if you’re a born-here Minnesotan and half-eat your T’s as ya say ’em!😉).

Lindell and his buddies were coming back from hunting Teal down in Iowa, apparently, when they were hemmed in & busted.

Teal are a type of duck. Iowa has a “Special Teal Season” from Sept 1st-16th (I looked it up on their Department of Natural Resources website-it’s the “Special September Teal”)

Minnesota twitter–and in particular Minneapolis & Purple/Grimace twitter are having an absolute BLAST about the fact that Lindell got busted!😆😂🤣💖

    This is one of the local reporters–she got the first interview with Lindell;

And my guess is, former Viking Keith Millard’s name will also be mildly trending soon, since he was the LAST famous person with ties to a Mankato Hardees–back in the 1990’s😉🤣

  10. i love F1 and motogp…and will watch them near religiously

also enjoy womens football…..its like…regular football…with less whining and acting

(tho…they are catching up on that….shame….welp….not like im invested in it)

  11. I don’t mind watching hockey and baseball on TV because of all the added grafix. Never seen a Leafs game in Toronto… only in Buffalo because the tickets are cheap and I can eat a bucket of original Buffalo Wings for 1/2 the price of a nosebleed seat.

Outside of playoffs and March Madness, I don’t like watching Basketball on TV.  However, I love watching it live. Even a mid season NBA game is exciting to watch live. I’ve enjoyed every Raptors game I’ve seen (been near the front row, box seats AND (mostly) nose bleeds.)

The most fun I’ve had was watching professional Lacrosse. Mind you I was also drunk out of my mind. I ended up screaming “Spaniard!!!” (-from Gladiator) through the entire game.

  12. BTW, it seems Premier Doofus isn’t going to honor the Queen’s funeral because he is a fucking oaf with no historical perspective.

I am no royalist, but I’d honor the woman who helped us repatriate our Constitution and allow us to change it without British Parliament consent (seriously.)

And that she was the Queen for a large chunk of Canada’s existence.

Instead he’s surrendering to the money bag fuckers who don’t want to give us working plebes another fucking day off. Also the Conservative wingnuts who shriek about this being Trudeau (Senior)’s shining moment to the forever rage of Alberta and Quebec.

    Trudeau Jr had it right.

I repeat, Doug Ford is a fucking oaf.
