Cities aren’t one big blob, of course. They’re made up of endless smaller communities. Here are a few different ones I’ve recently been around.
Halloween Party
My block has an annual Halloween party before kids are let loose on the streets. It was spitting rain that afternoon, but the gloom faded enough for people to gather outside.
Here are some random examples of costumes.
Farmers Market
November is the tail end for produce where I live, but the end of the harvest and the regular vendors of prepared food and other items still draw a lot of people to the farmers market I regularly visit.
Dog Fosters
Finally, here are some photos showing dog fosters picking up their newest furry leeches. This organization sends vans to pounds and shelters in the Deep South which regularly euthanize animals and transfers the rescues to fosters in areas where there are lots of adopters.
The dogs coming off these vans are typically pretty wigged out, but most adapt to better situations in a few days.
And here’s the good boy we took home. You can tell by his tail that he was pretty fearful, and after his stay in the pound his coat was filthy. I gave him a bath after he got to our house.
But by the next day he was out of his shell, and he was adopted very quickly.
Looks like a vibrant community. 🙂
