When things feel like they’re falling apart, it’s always nice to see a reminder that they can be held together.
People like to reuse containers in artistic ways, and here are some of the ways they do this.
For example, take a look at this bamboo structure built to support a vine —
Yes, you’re seeing it correctly. Here’s a closeup —
It’s been adorned with Pez Dispensers. That’s a lot of Pez.
Here, someone has lined their porch with blue bottles filled with marbles.
They face west so that people sitting on the porch can see them catch light from the setting sun.
At the bottom of their porch they have more blue glass as well.
For another use of leftover glass, someone affixed these bottles to the wall of their porch and used them to display dried flowers. Someone who knows better than me might be able to identify the liquor they used to hold.
And here at the bottom of bench someone set out in front of their house, you can see glass containers filled with dried flowers.
For the Animals
And these last two aren’t for people but for animals. Some homes here and there put out containers of water on hot days for passing beasts. Here you can see a takeout container in the bottom left corner, and one of its probable beneficiaries.
And finally, someone has repurposed an old crate to supply sticks for dogs with a hankering for something to chew.
We’ve seen bottle trees here in Appalachia. They were brought to the US by slaves using hoodoo to keep things together when everything was falling apart.
I hadn’t heard of those before, so I just looked them up. This article includes a photo of one by Eudora Welty from the 1930s.

I love bottle trees. They way we drink we could have a bottle forest.
That stick crate is smart!
