City Walks – Easter

Easter Egg Lights - A Missed Marketing Moment?

Easter signs

Mild Weather, Mild Displays

Easter is another holiday like Saint Patrick’s Day which doesn’t generate a lot of displays, but you see them here and there.

One sign of low interest is the way stores don’t go very far in their displays, like this pretty dull batch of dyed eggs.

Also, where Halloween and Christmas displays, and even July Fourth displays can show a lot of creativity, this is about as far as people will go.

Lions with bunny ears

This is the one display I saw which looked like it took more than five minutes to set up.

Otherwise they pretty much came down to sticking a sign in the ground or putting out a couple of baskets. Which is fine. Not everything demands a level of obsessiveness like Halloween. There are gardens to plant.

  1. I like the bunny ears on the lions, lol. We’re in the Bible Belt so there are a ton of He Is Risen type of flags/signs in yards. As a former Catholic, it annoys me to see any of this before Easter Sunday. I have a pretty egg wreath I put on my door, I think of it more as a Spring decoration than strictly Easter. But I had to bring it in because a huge crow kept attacking it and stealing eggs from it. You can see where at least two are missing but a few of the smaller ones are gone too.

  2. There’s a house in my neighborhood that is constantly decorated for any holiday imaginable. They’ve got inflatables for every purpose: Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, Easter, Memorial Day, you name it, they’ve got inflatables for it. I’m not judging — I go all out for Halloween and Christmas, but I’m not bothering with St. Patrick’s Day. Weird thing is I’m not sure the couple that lives there even has kids.

  3. I realize I’m very late to the party, but my second-closest neighbors (about 1.5 miles away) always decorate their yard for every possible holiday.  Their Easter display mixes the bitter with the sweet.
