Where Are The Cars?
Last December I posted photos of this street when it was closed off for the annual Christmas parade. I walked by a few weeks ago, and the street was closed again.

A few people took advantage of the lack of cars.

And then the first signs appeared of what was going on. First some motorcycles.

Then came the first real sign — a car loaded with racing bikes, leading the way for a team.

And then the bikers started up the hill, easy for them but a long climb that would have hammered me.

In the matter of a couple of minutes, they raced past, and then they were gone.

I have no idea who any of these racers were, and this wasn’t a race on a par with the top European races, but it was fun to watch a bunch of athletes in much better shape than me blast on by.
Always fun to spectate at local cycling races. In the autumn, cyclocross is absolutely a blast.
Races in laps seem more appealing than ones that go on a long course where you see the riders once.
Very true. CX also has more mud, more beer, and more cowbell.
@Memeweaver, that race is NEAT (and–like you, I am WAY impressed by folks who can do that!😉)
And your “Open Streets” title reminded me, that I told @MyopicProphet that I’d take an evening-view set of pictures off that apartment balcony we got shifted to, after the sprinkler line had a bullet do a through-and-through, a week ago Sunday night, but I forgot to put ’em up, what with alllll the moving & packing…
So I’m hoping it’s ok to pop ’em here, since there *are* streets in them (only NOT so “open” or daytime😉💖
These are our views–and part of why I really DO love this part of my city🥰💞💗💓

What’s building on the right with the colored lights?
The one with the pink writing is a hotel-ish place called Moxie.
If you meant the one with the lights that sort of look like a crown on the corner of the building, that’s now called Seven Points, it was formerly known as Calhoun Square, but we’ve dropped Calhoun in the neighborhood, for the people-owning creep that he was.
Awesome views! Congrats! I recognise that white building…well…I recognise that view! I saw it on my way to a Wild game!
Thanks!
Ngl, it’s these sorts of views (and especially if you have a view of our downtown at night!), that helped me to fallin live with this city, almost 25 years ago😉
It’s “city” enough to have *anything* you could want to do, see, eat, or go to, but still *small* enough to not be overwhelming–AND we have the lakes *RIGHT* here, plus the Mississippi.
I adore it, and it’s homey, too😁
