A while back I posted some photos of different houses with gnomes in their gardens. I recently walked past one of those gardens with an elaborate display, and took a few minutes to check it out.

At first it seemed pretty much the same, not that I had made a serious gnome census.

But then it occurred to me that the sign must be new.

And then looking around more carefully, it struck me. The gnomes were now sharing their space with toys. In this photo, there’s an alligator xylophone and a Fisher Price ambulance.

Here, there is some kind of submarine or spaceship.

There were no toys when I stopped by a couple of years ago. I think the gnome collectors had a kid.
