There is an assortment of public art in the big park I walk to from time to time. Some of it is heroic statues dating back to the 19th and early 20th centuries.
Other works include the trunks of dead trees which were carved into figures.
But somehow until this past fall I missed an installation of elephants that has been around for almost a decade. It turns out they are part of an ongoing project that recruits local artists and schoolkids to periodically repaint and redecorate the elephants – you can see 2023 or 23 painted on some of them.
All of them have a painted side like this…
… and the reverse side is decorated with old salvaged signs and other pieces of scrap metal.
For this one, there are also mosaics inside the triangles
They’re about the height of a small elephant (some are adults and some are babies), and they all have different poses.
I’ll try to remember to walk by later this year and see if they’ve been updated for 2024.

…there’s a bunch who call themselves wild in art who’ve done a similar thing with slightly more 3D statues of various animals that they get different people to decorate copies of in different places to make “trails”

…& they’ve done elephants I believe…also cows…which is a different lot to the highland coo trail that was a hospice fundraising thing in scotland at some point when I was there
