a little while ago @bluedogcollar was wondering how these intricate bits of graffiti came to be…well…over here at least the answer is facebook
well…more specifically a facebook group organized getting a bunch of artists together and the county gave them permission, access to a bunch of equipment and a previously fairly depressing block of houses to use as a canvas….then they got some live music organized in town and called it a street art festival
guess ill start with the tunnel under the block of houses

and the other side

found some flowers on slightly higher ground

figure it’d be rude to not include the signature

not entirely sure what i’m looking at here…but its a lot nicer than the boring grey ish it was before

cute or terrifying?

the potatoheads seem to think its terrifying

and this last one oppo has named…giant ninja romance novel

i know they had 7 artists….and ive only found 4 so far…this annoys me but i guess ill find them….eventually
i am also unsure how this was funded as i doubt the artists did this for funsies…my guess is it was at least partially crowd funded by the facebook group….but in this town it wouldnt surprise me if the county picked up the whole bill…we do fancy ourselves quite the artsy town
anyways linky link to the facebook group if anyone wants it

have a good weekend everyone 🙂
That’s great! I’d love to be able to tell people visiting my place for the first time to just look out for the potatoes fleeing from the bunny creature.
lol yeah…they clearly gave the artists free reign to do as they please
I love these. And I’d say the bunny is both cute and terrifying.
i’d agree with you tbh….its a little uncanny valley
I LOVE that bunny one–because it’s *SO* incredibly absurd & “Alice in Wonderland-y”!!!😉😁🤗
forgot to say….they did all that in like 3 days
Even when you pay artists a decent return, art doesn’t have to cost crazy amounts or be a big pain in people’s butts. I’m glad to see more of it.
oh most artists just charge what they consider a fair hourly wage (the big names not so much)
but when it comes to paintings and the like….people seem to think they can commission a piece for like…100 bucks…. that’ll cover your expenses easy right
i mean its only a4 sized….never mind that its 30 hours of work
(ive been living with an artist for a whiles now)
The flowers are beautiful. We have quite a few buildings with murals around here, and I really like them.
i wouldnt complain if all the buildings had murals……really brightens the place up
They’ve been doing murals a LOT around my part of Minneapolis lately, in order to “fight off” the idiot/asshole taggers.
This is the homepage;
https://www.lynlakestreetart.com/2023-street-art-series
They’ve been doing it since 2018, but it REALLY seems to have ramped up a TON, since all the destruction that happened in the city, back after George Floyd was murdered.
There’s been pretty exponential growth in the choice by building owners to have deliberate murals created, rather than having to *constantly* repaint, because of asshole taggers & gangs trying to have “Turf Wars” by sprawling their stupid handles *everywhere*
The asshole taggers are thought of as the assholes they are, by a few folks, when they’re defacing the normally painted buildings.
But they get a reputation for being complete JERKS & “The Lowest of Lowlifes!” when they scrawl their crappy (unpatriotic, typically!) tags over ACTUAL *Paid for* art!😉😈😈😈
So most apartment buildings & businesses around here, are now leaning HARD into the “Lets hire *ACTUAL* artists, to create Murals for us!!!” and then also paying those artists to come out & do touch-ups, on the rare occasion, where the asshats deface their artwork😁💖
paint all the things awesome
make the world a more beautiful…sensory overload like place
fuck it throw in some neon….the kind that falls off the walls if a mime or clown walks under it
i wont complain if it squishes a politician or two either
but if we do get a bouncy colourful neon mad world
i request sensory quiet booths…..like the phone booths of old…. but phoneless…and quiet….preferably blinded
