City Walks – Where The Bulbs Go

From Farm to Park

We’ve been lucky to see Loveshaq’s photos of Skagit Valley, the source of most of the tulip and daffodil bulbs grown in the US. This park near me is where some of those bulbs end up being planted.

The daffodils are fading but the tulips are in full bloom now, and people come from all of the city and suburbs to see them. It’s always interesting to see how people interact with the flowers for the brief period they appear.

Of course, people come to photograph them.

They come to climb trees, jog, fly a kite, or kick a ball.

They bring their dogs.

And of course, a lot of people come just to hang out with the flowers and all of the other people.

  1. I think people turning out en masse to see blooming spring bulbs is because it’s such a a glorious antidote to winter dreariness and most of us no longer have many native spring ephemerals to help shake us into spring and summer with their blooms.

  2. That’s so nice to see.  In a few weeks when I’m in Chicago I’ll be teaching a few Tai Chi classes at the Morton Arboretum and they have some beautiful gardens.
