Pay the Man

Happy Tax Day (US)? I dunno — we filed months ago. Ms. Meme is not one to procrastinate on the federal and state accounting procedures. What about the rest of you?

  1. …I think I got once bitten twice shy trying to get tax stuff done ahead of time when something arrived in the post after I thought I was done to tell me I’d got some figures wrong…not by so much I’d looked like I tried to fiddle something but enough that I worried about not being able to prove what I’d signed to being true…so…now I’m usually in the last few weeks before a deadline more often than not?

  2. I had to have a CPA deal with mine because of the divorce (which finally went through last month). The CPA was recommended by my ex’s attorney, and I wasn’t interested in kicking up dirt, so I went with it. Sent him an email on Monday asking him for a status. Radio silence. Emailed him again this morning. Bupkis. So, I’m not surprised, because literally nothing her attorney has suggested ever worked, but I am pretty pissed anyway.

  3. If you’ve had lots of different jobs, simplify your retirement stuff now (rollovers, etc) because that shit can be a hassle. Especially since I’m old and numbers have lost all meaning for me now.

  4. Drove up and got ours from the tax guy yesterday. We owe several thousand but not as bad as I imagined. Then we looked more carefully & saw that they kept my eldest on our taxes even though she filed her own. He just called & said he caught his mistake & would be emailing us with a new number. We need a new tax guy, he is not the brightest bulb & doesn’t listen to us. Hard to find accountants here that are accepting new clients & ours are convoluted which doesn’t help find one.

    • When my daughter was our dependent, we used to get refunds Whoo hoo! Now she files her own, except Daddy does the actual work.

She got back $500, I owed $280. How is that fair, I ask you? Next year I’m gonna charge for my services. $500 sounds about right.
