Coffee Break [16/12/24]

It wouldn’t feel like the holidays without cookies—lots and lots of cookies. My daughter helped with the baking this year. She has her own pizzelle iron now, so she took that over. Hers are better than mine anyway. She also made the Love Knots, which we argued about because I wanted them to have green and red sprinkles, but she insisted on the traditional multicolor. And she’s going to try her hand at Pignoli. I made gingersnaps, brown sugar cookies, shortbread, brownies, and maple fudge. I’m making Italian Rainbow cookies later this week. Then I have to package everything up and deliver them to friends.

No, mine will not look this good.

  1. This hits the ole emotional sore spot for me… (Not anyone’s fault)

Mom used to make several months worth of cookies including my favorites lemon squares and short bread cookies at this time of year for about 40 years.

It is going to be one of the things I will definitely miss. She stopped baking a couple of years earlier but still. I don’t/can’t bake, one sister has gluten issues and the other might be diabetic so holiday cookies aren’t going to happen.

    • My one sister and I used to bake all the cookies for our extended family once our aunts got too old to do the baking. I made at least 1,000 cookies and hauled them to Pittsburgh every year. Then my sister and I would pack them up to deliver to the relatives. I may miss them but I do not miss that amount of work.
