Coffee Break [22/4/26]

So good to be back at normal operating capacity here at the Fluffy Fresh Toast Co.

I am now in a way of thinking of things that should be improved by now. Internet, streaming services, and other aspects of our stupid technological age are obvious, but I want to go back to something really niche, minute, and dumb: the vinyl LP inner sleeve.

For the sake of all fucks throughout history, why hasn’t anyone started making the album inner sleeves out of some mylar/space-age polymer fusion that will actually resist splitting at the edges?! Why am I, even with reissues printed in the past couple months at the finest (*sarcasm*) pressing plants in the Czech Republic, still having to museum-handle micron-thin paper sleeves with the hermetically sealed clean-room care usually reserved for the Dead Sea Scrolls? Drives me fucking nuts. Obviously. This whole paragraph is probably incoherent to most.

What say you, Deadspinteratti? What are the things that you think surely should be solved or at least improved by now?

  1. …honestly…I don’t know how many pennies it might have off whose margin…but…tyvek exists

…it’s not that difficult to see how those record sleeve inserts would be a good use case

…we get distracted by the lack of hoverboard options in this rubbish future we’re back to

…also…why is there not a combo battery-pack keyboard for a phone with buttons that are buttons & not taking up space on my screen when I want to type…I know there’s the clicks thing but we have foldable phones so really the keyboard should be able to fold out to the full size on a landscape orientation with the blackberry one for portrait…&…not be part of the case

…I swear it’s like all I do is talk to myself…these people never listen?

  2. Digital music. I should be able to buy a digital music file, store it on the media of my choice, and retain it forever. This bullshit of renting it on some streaming service must be destroyed. Until then, I will continue to create my own MP3s from YouTube. I have the reverse concern with DVDs — I get scared that I won’t be able to play my DVD collection one day and everything will be on some damn streaming service. On that day I will become the Joker and wage war against society.

  3. I hear you about the inner sleeves. I automatically replace sleeves that have print on them to keep them mint.

Hard copy computer games. I can no longer play fallout 3 because Microsoft live is no longer a thing. The work arounds need a degree of knowledge I do not possess. I will have to buy it again if they update it like they did with oblivion.

  4. Why does everything need a plastic wrap? Milk, creamer, any other drink really needs a second seal even though I broke one seal to get to it? Then half the time i need a knife to cut it because they don’t leave enough of a lip to just peel it off! I think we have enough micro-plastics w/out adding that shit!

    • …that’s me scooped then, I guess…fair shout, though

…the…tentative good news, I suppose…is between the fluctuating odds of the place vanishing like a shop that sold you a monkey’s paw & the places I have to be tomorrow…probably…the DOT won’t have time to get too overloaded…well…tomorrow’s anyway?

      • ill be at work mate 🙂
        timezones you know
even if you go full on nutzo i wont know til several hours later…or probably like noon your time when i get off work

        i live in the future!
