A food service director in Cook County, Illinois, has been accused of embezzling $1.5 million worth of chicken wings. She placed the orders with Gordon Foods through the school’s account even though they don’t serve wings in the Harvey school district. I imagine there’s a decent black market for hot wings.
I’m personally not a fan. But with the Superbowl coming up, I’m sure some of you will be eating them. How do you like yours, Deadsplinters? Baked or fried, ranch or bleu cheese? With sauce or naked?
I enjoy wings but it’s a hassle to eat them. Plus thanks to stupid sensitive skin sometimes I get some irritation where the spicy sauce gets on my face. And no, I’m not even eating actually spicy spicy wings.
Lazy me is happy to just cut up a thigh or breast instead of fussing with wings.
I’m that person who insists on boneless wings when I’m sharing apps with friends. It’s too much work digging for bits of meat. And I go for the mid heat not the atomic. I like to be able to taste my food. Bleu cheese over ranch too.
I prefer dry wings as opposed to saucy because I don’t like messy food smeared all over my face.
At work, one time we went out to try this one place’s Armageddon wings (ghost pepper sauce) and it was goddamned hilarious for those who didn’t eat them.
I chickened out because I had nightmares of acid reflux caused by hot sauce/garlic so I passed (smart decision I made.)
One person had a bad night. First off he ate a celery stick that had the sauce on it and he didn’t notice till it started burning he began screaming (to our amusement.) Later he forgot he had the sauce on his hand and wiped his eye. His shrieks of pain were part horrifying and hilarious.
Only one guy (Vietnamese) who ate those wings without trouble. He was the type to put hotter sauce on his hot sauce to spice it up.
The rest gave up because it was too damn hot. On Monday, everyone who ate the wings complained about post wing discomfort. It just reinforced my own decision to pass.
I don’t understand ordering nuclear heat level food. I like hot sauce but I don’t want it to overpower the flavor of the food. Not that wings have a lot of flavor.
Mostly male ego, I think.
I once ordered and finished off the hottest vindaloo (beyond heat) as a young man. Also I was so bloated from drinking beer and Nan bread to keep my mouth from igniting in flames.
I never did this again. Once was too many.
Hahaha been there done that with Vindaloo at a restaurant. Never drank so much Singha in my life (because it’s acceptable to order a million beers but it’s frowned upon if you do the same with mango lassi). Vindaloo these days are not as potent anymore.
…there’s a place in manchester called rusholme that’s also called “the curry mile” on account of the number of restaurants…& on a few menus you’d find the “tindaloo”…as in tinder…like embers
…never ordered it but I asked a guy once why vindaloo wasn’t enough & they said it was basically bait for drunk people…say a rugby team on a friday night…& the staff thought of it as getting their own back on annoying customers who insisted they wanted “the hottest thing you’ve got”
The night we ate that Vindaloo, the kitchen staff came out to see the “white guy” and “Asian guy” stupid enough to eat that stuff. They were less impressed with me aka “Asian guy” and were more impressed with my friend “White guy” who ate it without crying or throwing up.
Revenge food, lol.
When I smoked I could handle spicier foods than after I quit. I think my taste buds were numb. I was friends with a couple of guys from Taiwan that had a restaurant and when I ate there they made my dish extra hot for me. I’d have tears running down my face, lol. No way I could do that now.
I’ve had some mediocre vegan wings. If I remember from decades ago, I liked them crispy, boneless, and with blue cheese.
Deep fried tofu that just stays tofu is great, it’s when someone tries to duplicate chicken that it’s bad.
I bought some vegan wings at Whole Foods once and they were not good. But I’ve gotten some frozen Gardien chicken tenders that weren’t terrible. Maybe I’ll try to make them breaded in the air fryer and see how they turn out.
I like chicken a lot, but the mess and fuss with wings is really overselling them.
I haven’t watched SNL in years, that was pretty good lol.
I never understood why they include drumsticks in chicken wings but I prefer them, less work. I can do sauced or dry, Korean ones are awesome.
…korean fried chicken has been something of a revelation for me…hadn’t really tried it until a few years ago but now it’s hard to resist
I keep meaning to try Korean fried chicken but all three Korean restaurants are in areas I rarely go to. One is downtown and there’s never parking. The other two are in out of the way spots. Still no more than 30 minutes away though so I need to make a point of going one of these days.
I’m such a picky eater, there’s too many what I consider icky bits in wings and drumsticks.
This series is fun. I’m not sure how they get these guests to do it though.
Bryan Cranston is a treasure. I wouldn’t have gotten past the third sauce and he’s giving an interview, lol.
Elizabeth Olsen did one during all the Marvel films etc and she was just completely unfazed on the super spicy ones. Might as well have been eating grapes or something.
Boneless for me, with ranch or blue cheese and not too hot. I also do not like a big ol’ messy wing face.
All of this 👆🏼
not a huge fan of chicken and i consider wings to be more work than they are worth
drum sticks or a whole leg is fine tho….but even then…its mostly just the skin i really like…the rest is…uhh…well…just chicken
Wings do make the best stock though, lots of collagen. And Fanny get the meat. I’m not crazy about chicken in general.
tbh….being that im stuck with vegetarians….i kinda forgot about making stock with wings…ive gotten real used to doing everything the veggi way over the years…lol
(well…pescetarians really….fish is sometimes safe to use around here)
As with most things in life, I like them baked, naked, with some spicy sauce on the side.
😂
