  1. Florida Man is beyond stupid. What is the objective here? Tarpon aren’t usually eaten because they a) taste bad and b) have a ton of little tiny bones that are hard to get out. They’re usually only caught by sport fishers and then released. Source: Used to work for a couple of fishing magazines.

Plus while I don’t think they’re federally protected, tarpon are regulated. If they catch up to this asshole, he’s going to get more than a slap on the wrist.

I have no comment on Alabama Man, except meth.

    • I’m guessing that Florida Man is going to try to claim he caught it. Maybe they’ll nail his ass when he tries to get it mounted. And Alabama Man? meth for sure!

    • I’m wondering if there was some kind of social media stunt planned. There are people who cross the line from dumb stuff that only affects them and end up hurting other things.

      • Hurting is right. Unless he got that tarpon into a pretty big tank pretty fast, it died. Dumping it into the ocean won’t help — if it was raised in captivity, it will still die, just slower.

  2. Hope neither of them visit the Ripley’s Aquarium in Toronto.

I’ve had lead weight sinkers that have more intelligence than either.

Also, was there drugs and alcohol involved? There had to have been.

  3. Long ago in Waikiki, there were a few bars below hotel pools with windows looking into the pools.  I don’t think you could get away with this anymore but I heard stories about one called the Red Lion that a couple snuck in the pool naked after hours & were getting friendly.  Afterwards, they dressed and walked in the bar for the first time to immediately see the giant window & have a crowd of drunks giving them a standing ovation! This one still exists but is now a gym and they covered the windows…

    • I was at a pub with friends once where a couple was participating in Boebert Beetlejuice level PDA. Right at the bar, not even back in a booth. A group of us borrowed some paper and a Sharpie from the bartender, pulled our stools up to them, and they angrily broke it off to see what we were doing we were doing to find us holding up scorecards. Everyone but the couple in question was greatly amused.

    • It’s funny you should mention this because I had a friend who used to work near the UN (Dag Hammarskjöld Plaza) and there was a couple who lived in a building nearby and in the warm weather they liked to go up on their roof and go at it. Word would spread and the whole building would race to that side to gawk. She said, “A couple of times I thought the building was going to tip over…”

      • Many years ago, my wife and I were on the beach in the Upper Keys. We were wandering along, looking for seashells and occasionally jumping into the water. A very attractive young couple rode up on bicycles. Both were wearing thongs (yes, they both had the physiques to pull it off). They parked the bikes and headed off into the water, emerging a couple minutes later to lay on a sandbar maybe 40 feet offshore.

A few moments later the woman pulled her top off. Okay, this is interesting. Three other couples on the beach stopped to stare. Then, they both pulled their thongs off. Okay, well. This isn’t a nude beach, but it is the Keys, so guess they don’t realize they shouldn’t … oh, wait. The woman proceeded to climb on top of the man and momentarily thereafter started a familiar up and down motion.

All four couples on the shore exchanged incredulous glances. None of us left. Normally, you’d think someone would start tugging on their significant other to get them moving, but nope, we all stared in amazement as they completed the entire process, and then she rolled off him and lay in the sand. After another round of glances at each other, we all moved on.

Now, you can get confused about nudity if you’re from another country. But I’m not aware of any that permit public … well, you know. So I have to assume that they wanted an audience. Gotta say, to this day, my wife and I vividly recall the incident.

        • I have said before, I think, that better Half takes a share in the Pines on Fire Island every year. I used to go with him. There’s a couple who are the ringleaders and recruit the other Pines-goers who join the house.

So one weekend one of the couple couldn’t get away from work so he arrived later but earlier than he had told us. He asked where his husband (I think they were married at that point) was. He went down to the beach on the Atlantic side, only to find his boyfriend or husband completely naked on the beach and taking on all-comers. (Oh. That’s kind of double entendre.) It was a free-for-all. And this friend is kind of a nudist so at the house he was always hanging out au naturel and so would I if I were so well-equipped. So that made him very attractive to the Fire Island Pines beachgoers.

Ach. Life is what you make of it.

  4. Can I just drop this off? I’m doing a lot of paperwork, backdating invoices to try to squeeze them into 2023, I mean the work was done in 2023 but, you know, who has time? So my Youtube algorithm decided to throw this up at me. I haven’t thought of this song in 20 years, at least. Amazing

    • I’d almost forgotten about this song until it was used, to hilarious effect, in the series finale of Chuck. Since then I’ve gotten satellite radio with its plethora of stations, and it pops up pretty regularly on some of the themed channels.

      • Oh. mine too, bruddah. Do you happen to know…every night I lull myself to sleep by watching one episode of “Hawaii 5-0” and I torture you all by recapping them. In one of the ones I saw Steve McGarrett calls a couple of people “faddah.” Is that what they would really say in Hawaii? For father? I might have misheard this. I have been called “uncle” or “unc” by Spanish-speaking bodega workers, so I can see why you would say this…

        • Typically local kids call any much older adult male “uncle” as a sign of respect and “auntie” for females.  I don’t think I have ever heard anyone use “faddah” but lots of “pops”.  Grandmas are called always called “Tutu” & grandpa is “Tutu Kane” but people rarely use “Tutu Kane”.  This guy is my pigeon speaking hero.  He tried to run for governor but they ruled he was too young.  He had a super popular show in Hawaii.  His name BuLaia literally means “bull liar”.
