Hi, friends!
Tonight’s theme is around learning new things. I’m taking a CPR course next week, and I’m excited to learn it. This way, if there ever is an emergency, I can still freeze and be useless but also be super angry at myself 10 minutes later for remembering what I should have done.
Anyways, do you like learning new skills and activities? Are you better at just reading about things on your own and using YouTube videos? I love all the instructional videos on YouTube. There’s been many times I’ve searched how to do something and either realizes I could do it myself, or oh shit that looks complicated better hire someone else.
i do therefore i am
you can tell me shit all day long…and i will be able to recite it to you
but let me do something once and i got it
unless its paperwork….in which case make me do it once….and i resent you
I never learn.
there is a forum i have been too busy to roll out that, fuck it, check it out yourselves and have fun.
be sure to see how awesome it is by means of notifications by logging in with an actual pc instead of phone.
knock yourselves out, have a great time creating and commenting and follow up with me what you think and how it can be approved.
@lemmykilmister is the boss of that possibly amazing space it’ll be if you use it, not me.
…so…tread lightly?

That forum is going to be fun.
I learned how to replace my door knobs from a YT video. But I would need to rewatch it in order to change them again.
It’s funny because it’s true.
I like knowing things. I don’t like learning things.
The washer I fixed a month ago is still working, knock on wood.
I managed to find a series of videos that explained parts of what I needed, but annoyingly nothing that explained every part.
And I think that’s a problem with videos that they’re all one track, when what you often need is more like a good how to book that lets you branch off and jump ahead or go back.
Here is a legend for June 6, 2024.

It has been said that the first Wehrmacht soldiers captured on Omaha Beach were Koreans.
I read about him on cracked.com way back when

YouTube is quite helpful but not for dealing with issues or imperfections. I had some issues with staining and varnishing wood but could not find anything to help with issues I had following the You Tube directions.
I have to get CEUs for recertification as a medical interpreter, a court interpreter and now as a translator (as I babbled once to brightersider not long ago and not far from where I’m now sitting and composing this). There are webinars and conference sessions that at least seem interesting from the description, but I often fear that whatever I learn from them just goes in one ear and out the other.
Like, there’s one coming up next month about the terminology of the human brain, and I’ve been kicking around the idea of signing up for it because it’s three hours that I can knock out for two out of the three certifications. But the damn thing’s on a Saturday, and the hours overlap with the general time frame in which I’d be getting up and/or getting something to eat. I can easily see myself falling asleep in front of my laptop — to the point where I just end putting it on one of the footrests on my couch and lie the fuck down with my head in front of it.
I’m a huge YouTube fan. I look at multiple videos to get comfortable with even the idea of taking something apart to repair it. Then I pick the video that I think will best direct me through the steps, and then I follow it. Usually that method is very successful.
