What obscure (or sort of obscure) movies have you enjoyed?
Any genre.
Stuff I liked for whatever reason:
Bambi Vs Godzilla
The Hidden
Saturn 3
A Bronx Tale
1987 (film)

i found the worst movie in existance once
and you know…..im comparing it to one eyed monster
eeeeh…..you know when bad shit happens you have to remember….hakuna matata!
also the kegel song
I’m a Return of the Dragon (1972) guy.
Note: Return of the Dragon and Way of the Dragon are the same movie, released under different title for the US audience.
Which of course inspired this
Keanu and Andrew Koji are keeping the legacey alive.
…you probably know this already…but in the same way there’s about 5 or so arguably better films (like lady snowblood & the blizzard of the netherworld) that he stitched whole limbs of together to make kill bill out of
…or the lion king owes a debt disney got a court in california to issue them a note to say they don’t
…my guess is without this one
City on Fire
…you don’t get reservoir dogs the same way you don’t get heat without LA takedown…or the departed without infernal affairs…& the list goes on?
Absolutely. The Hong Kong movies had an outsized influence on US films.
For you and other Canadians — National Film Board of Canada shorts!

Titan AE is probably problematic by my standards these days. But omg I loved that movie when it was released and for years after. It was the first American animated sci-fi movie that had a kick ass Asian woman (co)lead that I had come across.
titan ae is one of my faves
i love that movie
feelgood and a half
……off the top of my head i cant think what it did to fall afoul of todays rules tho?
(bare with me here…..im a white cis male thats probably literate…maybe)
Mainly that Akima is voiced by a white actor, Drew Barrymore.
oh man……i dont pay that kind of attention to things
drew barrimore is in titan ae?
holy shit…..do we have more a listers?
heres me thinking the soundtrack must have been the expensive part
@farscythe yes! Well maybe only Matt Damon counts as an A lister. But definitely lots of actors you would recognize.

I adore Encino Man–and get a total kick out of the fact that now it has *two* Oscar winners in it😉😁😆💖
But another dumb favorite, has always been Multiplicity. It’s *not* a “Good” movie, but it *is* a GREAT one–Michael Keaton at his BEST, and even the cheesy split-screen effects were surprisingly good, for the era it was filmed in!
Number 4 is where *SO* many of the dumb movie quotes I say or that run through my head came from… “Hi Steeeve!”, “I LIKE Pizza!”, “Mebbe!”, “Pizaaaaaa!”, “She touched my peppy, Steeeve.”, and “Air.is.the ENEMY!” and just all-around bufoonery😉😂🤣💖
It’s *awful,* but it makes me giggle *most* of the way through, and it’s an absolute hidden GEM to showcase Keaton’s variability as an actor;
Dogma is another that I adore, as someone who grew up catholic!😉😂🤣💖
From *all* the little Catholic in-jokes like the “Please Stand, for the Recession of Faith” at the beginning of the movie, to Carlin playing Cardinal “Luck” (Glück is “luck” in German), who blessed his golf clubs, in order to be better at the game… the Muse, the Golgothan, the “Buddy Christ” and, “But, I’m a fucking demon!?!”, and the reality in-movie, of Jesus *being* a Black man, but Rufus being “written out” of the Bible, because of his Blackness.
And the scene with Rufus & Bethany on the train, talking about “Ideas vs. Beliefs,” is just so incredibly *TRUE*.
And even moreso, in this post 9-11, post Trump, “Fake News!!!!” era…
I forgot all about Dogma, I really liked it too! @emmerdoesnotrepresentme
Dogma was great but IMHO the 2nd best after the original.
we dissected Clerks in my college classes over & over.
Dark Star
and Wizards
…it’s a bit late to start doubling the length of this thread with different things as they occur to me & I wonder if they qualify as “cult”…but I have a massive soft spot for this one?
Brick
…like the infinite monkeys & their typewriters…given enough time they make a version of everything transposed onto a high school context…too many examples to mention even…but that one’s basically a raymond chandler type noir detective story in a high school…but with the dialogue intact rather than transposed, if that makes sense
…so…that one off the top of my head?
And stars a young Joseph Gordon-Levitt! (post 3rd Rock from the Sun)
…he’s in a few diamonds in the rough…like that one where he’s a bicycle courier who doesn’t believe in brakes?
Haha! Oh yes I remember the fixie craze. So dumb. Montreal hipsters all had them.
