There will be posts for general Deadsplintering soon but for now we’ll begin with the comment section and the most FAQs…
Youtube links:
Depending on the device/OS/browser you are using, you might run into a variety of issues getting Youtube links to auto-embed as the text editor might pick the Youtube links up as hyperlinks. For the auto-embed feature to work, the Youtube links must be in plain text.
So if you paste a Youtube link and it is underlined like this:
Highlight the link and click the “Unlink” icon in the text editor:
If you paste a Youtube link and it is already highlighted like this:
Simply click the “Unlink” icon and it should result in the link being in plain text.
This is an issue that should be fixed at some point, but would require feedback (via private message) from those who are experiencing these issues, or any other issues pertaining to this. Please let me know your specific issue, device, OS, and browser.
*Keep in mind that some Youtube links have auto-embed disabled from the source so you might have to choose a different video if that is the case*
Gifs/Images:
For gifs I generally use Giphy because all of their content is free use.
Go to https://giphy.com/ and search for a gif. Click on the gif you want to use and it will lead you to the following screen on which you click “Copy link”:
Copy the address next to “GIF Link”:
Back on your Deadsplinter comment, click the image icon in the text editor (the following are also the steps for posting images with the image’s link):
Paste the “GIF Link” or image link as the source:
Click anywhere else in the box and the dimensions will auto-fill:
The dimensions can be altered but it is generally unnecessary.
Hit “ok” and you’ll see this:
You can choose to type above or below the gif/image and/or post your comment as is:
Twitter:
To embed a tweet in the comment section, click on the tweet you’d like to share and copy the address:
Then paste the link in the comment box:
Then adhere to the same instructions as the Youtube links above so the link is in plain text prior to posting the comment:
If there is anything you’re unsure how to do, leave a comment and I will add it to and update this post.
If there is anyone who has any tips to add (as this post is very basic) feel free to add them in the comments and I’ll hoist them ATL, if necessary.
This post is simply for how to’s so for any technical issues you may be experiencing, please private message me directly instead of dropping comments.
wait…i can play with dimensions?
one sec
well…that didnt fucking work…
that cat was sposed to be full screen
I love touch tha fishy 😊
after you post the pic, click on “click to edit” and look for the part that says:
width=”200″ height=”115″
delete that and click save
Love that too, lol
Wasn’t there a thing once on how to write articles? Every once in a while something crosses my mind to contribute but then I forget to look up if there are instructions somewhere and then it slips my mind.
I’m not sure if there was but that would make for a good post. From someone more adept than I!
There was one that @helloamerica-arewedeadnow and I put together a long time ago but it is outdated. I will update it soon. We’d appreciate anything you’d like to contribute.
I think I did it this time!
How do I upload a picture from my phone? I clicked the icon that looks like a picture but it only asks for a source link, I can’t upload from a gallery.
Unfortunately that option is currently unavailable. Mostly for security purposes but a work around shouldn’t be too far away.
Testing gif abilities
This site is embarrassingly short on cat gifs. Thanks!
I see it 🙂
Testing to see if you can embed Instagram too? https://www.instagram.com/p/CGIf2KXFXN4/?igshid=zyjdsa8vk443
Verdict : ☹️
@cestlavieb
…so it looks as though (like youtube links) your best chance is to have the link on a fresh line
…& if it gets picked up by the comment editor as a link highlight it & click the break-link button so that it’s processed as plain text
…so the above should be an embedded version of your link?
Ah thanks! I unlinked the link but maybe I didn’t use a fresh line.
…de nada…it takes a little getting used to but for the most part myo’s efforts have borne a fair bit of (sometimes hidden) fruit once you get the hang of how to ask them to do what you want…& that one I happen to know
…generally the technical stuff is probably above my pay grade & he prefers to skip the blind leading the blind & get people to message him about stuff to avoid potential confusion…but I think I got away with it this time?
This might be a good workaround to add personal images to the comment section without “uploading”!
use your instagram or flickr or whatever (or upload to a google server or whatever) and post the link
Testing!
Also, @myopicprophet, thank you SO much.
SUCCESS!
I’m sure the cat gif issue will be remedied soon; many, many Balkers and GTers are fans of cat gifs.
Thanks so much for setting this place up! It looks amazing, although right now it’s like a hall of mirrors, but I’m sure things will start to make sense to me pretty quickly.
Hello myopicprophet: How does one acknowledge a “like” (?).
