Muse is one of my guiltiest of guilty pleasures. If any of you tell people I secretly like them, I will deny it and call you a dirty liar. They make some of the best video game playing music.
I thought I wouldn’t like muse until about 2012 when I finally listened to stuff that’s not just what they play on the radio, but the actual albums. I was wrong. Now I totally consider myself a fan
I first heard them because “Butterflies and Hurricanes” was used in the video game Need for Speed: Most Wanted. I’d get so pumped when that song came on that I went and checked out all their albums. Since Freddie Mercury’s death, there really haven’t been any bands occupying the heavy-rock-with-hysterical-operatic-vocals territory, and that’s a shame. But Muse stepped up to the plate and is unapologetic about it.
My song on that album is “Assassin”. The whole album grabs you by the throat with the first notes of “Take a Bow” and does not let go until you are left wasted and panting.
My dear wife might not be able to come home from Europe until after Thanksgiving, so for me, it’s not a New World, it’s a Blue World. But DUAN always makes me feel a little better.
Note to DUAN friends: you should definitely listen to this cut from the Four Freshmen. You might think it’s corny, but I guarantee by midway through you’ll feel it. Do it to humor me.
My dad liked hi-fi, and had this album on reel-to-reel tape. He would have me lay down next to him between the speakers so we could hear the stereo separation and how the bass would make my stomach move. He was a good dad. He also had the Martin Denny records, which I now realize are groovy as hell.
…I think I have an advantage when it comes to understanding the lyrics on account of the accent but I love that whole album
…& it is quite possible that its name might be my actual favorite…although I suck at picking my “top” anything so that’s either saying a lot or means surprisingly little…either way, I’d agree that they’re really good
…kind of lovely people too, as it happens…although I met them years ago & haven’t seen either in some years at this point
Wait…
We’re talking about New Worlds, and NO ONE POSTED THIS YET?!?!???
😉
We’re going with the anniversary edition then;
The ‘Jovis for that–surprisingly enough, both these cuts off the 2013 album What About Now, are back to back (track 10 & 11) on the album;
And for those of y’all who’ve heard me yammering about Jon & the boys often enough over this past year, this is the last “whole band” album–which is why it stays in regular rotation in my car’s CD changer😉
And just because i can, because–to use part of a line from Cake–“Sad Songs and Waltzes…” are some of *my* favorite songs, y’all get the waltzy one off that album, too😉😁💖
And some off-theme Cake, too–for good measure😈🤣
Lastly, because tonight is the 45th anniversary,

That’s a good song. The one that sold me when I was exploring their music… hook, line, & sinker, was Map of the Problematique.

James Brown – It’s A Man’s Man’s Man’s World

I forgot it was Twofer Tuesday!
Blur – Chemical World

Not Corny. Reminds me of my Father-In-Law. I can see him relaxing with a manhattan. I checked out the album on discogs and found this.

You had me at reel -to -reel.
My college roommate had one of those, with a reel that had like 9 hours of Frank Zappa on it.
Also, did you know Frankie Laine wrote that song? He’s the guy who wrote the Rawhide theme song.
…I did not know that…always learn things on these threads…thanks for that
Hi Luigi, thinking of you. Here is hoping that Mrs. Vuoto arrives home soon.
…not sure if this will work but couldn’t find a video for it
…this one has a video, though
Those are really good, SplinterRIP.

Come on, nobody has posted this one yet? There’s so much irony.
How about a World Party?

a new world?
hell with that….this dirtball is mine
