On March 2, 1959, Governor Nelson A. Rockefeller of New York declared this holiday. This day was set aside to commemorate Amerigo Vespucci’s birth anniversary on March 9. Rockefeller considered it vital to celebrate this day, as Vespucci gave his name to the two continents of America. He was one of the first Europeans to travel to the Western Hemisphere allowing the rest of the globe access to a new land. Since this is a music show, I won’t go into the ramifications of his voyages or colonization & just get into the tunes! If you want to learn more about Amerigo, here you go:
Sail on to the weekend good Deadsplinter-ites. Keep the wind at your back.
We have Amerigo Vespucci to thank for sfogliatella, babbalucci, The Sopranos, and the countless other priceless contributions to the Western Hemisphere from that greatest of all cultures.
