Deadsplinter Up! All Night: Beach Baby

The summer solstice, which marks the [astronomical] beginning of summer, was on Saturday (June 20). COVID-19 changed many plans but thanks to John Carter we still have:

The First Class‘ was a British studio-based band created in 1974 by songwriter/singer John Carter, who hired singers Tony Burrows and Chas Mills. Since neither Carter nor Burrows had the time for or interest in touring, five musicians (bassist Robin Shaw, lead singer Del John, guitarist Spencer James, keyboardist Clive Barrett and drummer Eddie Richards) were hired to do the live performances. The “live” group lip-synced the songs that Carter, Burrows and Mills performed in the studio. Although they appeared in the cover of the first album (above picture) they had no part in it and:

‘Beach Baby’ was a one-hit wonder. ‘The First Class’ folded 2 years later. I found footage of Tony Burrows performing ”Beach Baby’ in 2004. The quality isn’t good but that was the best I found:
