DeadSplinter Up! All Night: Chill, It’s Okay

“Hi, we’re Hinds, and we came here to rock!”

Hinds is a garage rock band from Madrid, Spain. Earlier this week they took another step forward in gaining more mainstream recognition by opening for the Strokes at the Barclays Center. Hinds, composed of Carlotta Cosials (vocals, guitar), Ana Perrote (vocals, guitar), Ade Martin (bass, backing vocals) and Amber Grimbergen (drums), have as much of a party animal reputation offstage as they do performing on stage. Crowd surfing concert goers, high energy, catchy music, and a DIY f*** you attitude have become the trademark for a Hinds shows and the band.

I was lucky enough to catch them headline a small San Francisco club in the summer of 2018 where they were promoting their second album I Don’t Run. One of the most fun shows that did feel like a massive party. Influenced by bands such as the Strokes, Black Lips, and the Vaccines; Hinds is poised to breakout here in the U.S. and continue on rocking everyone’s faces off.

  1. …ok – so before I go back to being swamped with indecision I’m going to go with my gut & figure something different deserves something different in turn…

    …or at least differ

  2. Can’t talk party girl bands w/o The Donnas:

      • …now why didn’t I think of them?

        • And to add to last nights coversation,

During their performance at the 1992 Reading Festival, the band experienced “technical difficulties with their audio equipment” and were forced to stall their set. The rowdy crowd grew restless and began throwing mud onto the stage, repeatedly pelting the band. In protest, lead vocalist Donita Sparks removed her tampon on-stage and threw it into the crowd yelling “Eat my used tampon, fuckers!” Sparks has remained unapologetic about the incident,[5][80] and the tampon has been referred to as one of the “most unsanitary pieces of rock memorabilia in history.”[81]

          • If that’s an urban legend then it was started by the band. I remember them telling the story in Spin or one of those magazines.

      • Kinda regret not going to see them when I had the chance. I could have said I was just taking my 12-year-old sister so I wouldn’t lose my cred.

        • Don’t tell Luv4allmusik this, but Belinda carlisle is my…um…favourite and I wouldn’t need an excuse to see her. I’m still first in line for Hope Sandoval!

When I was 10 and “Runaway Horses” was released, I took the bus downtown all by myself to buy the cassette THE DAY IT CAME OUT. I know every word to every Belinda song!

          And I feel ZERO shame!

          • Come on, Myo, you gotta make a choice.
I’ve stated that the line for Hope Sandoval starts behind me, but now you are claiming to be first in line for BOTH Hope and the lovely and talented Belinda Carlisle? Can we find some common ground here? I would still choose to be first in line for Hope but I would graciously stand behind you for Belinda. Fair?

            • I just paid for tickets to see Honeymoon Suite at Casinorama on Feb. 28th so I’m in a gracious mood…

              …agreed…

and one of a band from Spain I really like

  4. Today I came across this guy named Truth Sarge.

After the first few seconds, I was going to just move on from the Sarge but then he started singing. Wow! Pretty good! It’s been years since even Elton could hit those high notes!

  5. Just Chillin’ Out – Bernard Wright

  6. I couldn’t think of a “chill” song that wasn’t cheesy so I went the girl band route.
The Vivian Girls – Tell the World

  7. (Mostly) female bands?

The Soviettes – Multiply and Divide

  8. Korpiklaani – Gods on Fire
