Deadsplinter Up! All Night: Classics of Love

Punk & Ska legend

When Operation Ivy put out their first and only album, I was blown away. I loved every song on that LP and played it constantly. I was always disappointed that they never put out anything else other than the bootlegs of shows or tracks that kept popping up. While I knew of Armstrong & Freeman’s projects after the breakup, it was a long time before I discovered lead singer Jesse Michaels band Common Rider. I loved everything they put out but they only put out 2 studio albums and left me wanting more!

Luckily, after some research, I found that Jesse collaborated with the punk group Hard Girls to form the band Classics of Love named after the above Common Rider song. While this band has a much harder edge than Common Rider, some of their songs are awesome!

Hope you enjoyed Classics of Love.

    • There were also no fewer than FOUR doo-wop groups going by the name “The Classics”, TWO different doo-wop groups going as “The Classics IV” (not including the one above) and one called “The Five Classics”.  My favorite was this Italian greaser outfit out of Brooklyn, NY, with lead singer Emil Stucchio.

    • Dennis Yost, bless his heart, is doing “The White Man’s James Brown.”  And not badly, I might add. If you ever bring your karaoke gig to NYC I want to be the first to know.
