Phil May, lead singer of the British band The Pretty Things passed away on Saturday. The Pretty Things were the first English group to grow their hair long and rock out. They paved the way for The Rolling Stones and The Who, but never really got the appreciation they deserved.
The Pretty Things – Come See Me
There they are having a good time on Swedish tv in ’66. The band formed in 1963 and right from the start they were burning shit to the ground. Their sound got more psychedelic as the 60’s wore on culminating in their masterpiece, the 1970 album Parachute, one of my favorite albums ever and a terrific showcase for Phil’s voice which could go from angelic to a growl in a split second.
The Square/The Letter/Rain

I didn’t know Phil May passed. What a year.
David Bowie- Oh You Pretty Things
Oh they were groovy! That blazer! Here are the Yardbirds, also 1966
Question- did people really say groovy? I don’t think I ever heard anyone use it outside of The Brady Bunch.
Yes, especially when they were feelin’ groovy.
Ba da-da da-da
They also said “far out”, “dig it”, and “fab”.
The Supremes – Come See About Me:
The Supremes recorded a German-language version of the song, titled “Jonny und Joe” as the b-side of the 1965 single “Thank You Darling” (also sung in German) in Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands.[9] “Jonny und Joe” was later included on two various Motown artists compilation albums Motown Around the World (1987, 1CD)[10] and Motown Around the World: The Classic Singles (2010, 2CD)[11] and also on Diana Ross & the Supremes compilation 50th Anniversary: The Singles Collection 1961–1969 (2011, 3CD).[12]
