My wife is going out of town for a couple weeks for some cockamamie math conference (and to see our daughter) so I’m stuck here on the farm alone again, naturally. While there is a definite upside to being here by myself (not having to put the seat down and being able to watch kung fu and superhero movies whenever I want for example) I actually do miss her during these times as a solitary man.
So tonight, we celebrate something that of all the mammals, only humans do, and that is CRY. I mean, lots of other mammals can create tears to lubricate their eyes, and they’ll make crying sounds when separated from their offspring or when needing to go outside to pee, but only human beings do emotional crying. If you don’t believe me, here’s a link:

So, tears of sorrow, tears of joy, tears of laughter, or tears for fears, let’s all cry havoc and loose the waterworks. Make your mother sigh. Also, thank you for supporting Deadsplinter and for participating in this DUAN. Now please hand me a tissue.

I’ll let Johnny Ray & the Four Lads kick us off:
Somebody here recently mentioned that they hate Elvis Costello. Whoever that was, I want you to know I respect your right to be wrong. In my humble opinion (which is factual in this case) he’s the closest thing we have today to the Great American Songbook composers and lyricists of the 20th century. He’s in a direct lineage to Burt Bacharach (whom Elvis worked with extensively) to Johnny Mercer, Johnny Green, Billy Strayhorn, George & Ira, and right on down the line to Irving Berlin. So there.

We DeadSplinterites will keep you entertained! I’m going with Alone, by Josef Salvat:

Bobby Blue Bland – Cry, Cry, Cry
Knowing that Elvis Costello worked extensively with Burt Bacharach explains why he sucks so much.

English Beat – Tears of a Clown
@luigi-vuoto I’m in complete agreement on Elvis Costello, he’s a great songwriter and vocal stylist.

Yes you can die from sleep deprivation. You’ve gotta get some sleep, friend. Don’t let this go on too long. It would suck if anything happened to you.
