  1. Many, many moons ago there was a pretty cool sports website that I liked to read and they had this daily feature that was tagged for a 4th Century Chinese tribe, Duan…

Screw it that was a bad joke, I really had no idea what DUAN was and thought it was just posted by a dude named Duan. From time to time I’d see Duran in that tag and since it was always music I went with it being a Duran Duran joke. I’m not really sure how long it took me to figure out or learn that it was Deadspin Up All Night. which is a kinf of a shocker since USA’s Up All Night was one of my favorite weekend activities.

There are a lot of things that we think we know but don’t. Song lyrics are famous for hearing one thing and them being something completly different. Blinded by the Light is famous for the ‘Wrapped up like a douche” line. I, of course, never get these things confused and knew the lyrics to Smells Like Teen Spirit the 1st time I heard it.

Today in yesterday’s DUAN The Gambler was shared and got me to thinking who was the better train/bus passenger to be seated with…The Gambler? or this old timer??

Ladies and Gentlemen, please welcome. John Cougar Mellencamp…

On a Greyhound thirty miles beyond Jamestown
He saw the sun set on the Tennessee line
He looked at the young man who was riding beside him
He said I’m old kind of worn out inside

      • LOL. Bon Jovi is one of those bands that I can’t stand but know the words to about every song. Journey is another like that for me. I was not familiar with this tune but Jeeves said this was 2000 and I had checked out somewhere around ’92.

As always, their music is catchy and has me doing air guitar in the office…but I still don’t like them 😉

    • This is one of my silliest misheard lines:
Who knew that “To the bathroom, I saw his sister, she selling comics” was really “Chew the backbone, A solar system, these clever convicts”

    • …if I admit that I actually did understand the line “if you need me/me & neil’ll be hanging out with the dream king” the first time I heard it does that out me as a beyond-redemption nerd?

…obviously at the time no one in the room believed me & several thought I was high but it turns out it really was a reference to her & Neil Gaiman sharing accomodation while she worked on an album & he wrote the Sandman (or part of it anyway) & my vindication would have been sweet had any of them been available when I finally found out I should have stuck up for myself…

  2. …can’t resist it, I’m afraid – will try not to put too much of this guy in the rotation but I guess one way or another I’ve listened to a good bit of it for a good many years & some of them might actually be words to live by?
