I definitely feel like I done laid around too long at this point. Everyone have a good Memorial Day weekend? Did it actually feel like Memorial Day weekend for anybody?
That’s Harry Belafonte singing Gotta Travel On in the 1959 film The World, The Flesh, and The Devil. In it, Harry is the last man on Earth after a nuclear holocaust. He lives alone in New York until he runs across pretty (and white) Inger Stevens. He can’t bring himself to fall in love with her (“people will talk”) and then things get even more complicated when bigoted Mel Ferrer shows up. Certainly dated at this point, but it’s definitely one of the most interesting “social message” movies from that era. They shot a bunch of scenes in the early morning hours on deserted Manhattan streets that are pretty fantastic to see.
Lay Lady Lay
Buddy Guy feat. Anthony Hamilton and Robert Randolph – Lay Lady Lay:
This is awesome.
It sure is!
Germ House – Best Laid Plans
i made the mistake of setting this song as my alarm clock for a while
i now have a love hate relationship with it
I was definitely a Lazybones
but at least tried not to be a Lazy Lover
…..and because I got called out by name last night over some Grateful Dead nonsense and saw it too late to respond:
Eric Clapton – Lay Down Sally:
Time so slow
Tame Impala – Bold Arrow Of Time
nice! i believe i have posted this on duan somewhat recently, but:
I don’t remember you posting this, I like it. 🙂
Brilliant stuff right there.
I’ve been listening to a lot of ambient and psychedelic stuff, I feel like I’m on a slightly different wavelength than everyone else. So, here’s a second one that may fit the theme better?
Mississippi John Hurt – Lazy Blues
Psychic Ills?
Always, lol.
Whatever wavelength you’re on is where I want to be.
Be careful what you wish for!
John Prine – Day is Done
Derek and the Dominoes – Layla
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers – Don’t Come Around Here No More
Lazybones, loafin’ all the day
How you spect to make a dime that way
I don’t wanna make a dime no way
Can’t you see, I ain’t heard a word you say
Love TJW, little trivia for you, SCOTS are such big fans they were named after a line in Gumbo John by TJW. This song has another reference:
