Hi good friends! What are your favorite genres of music? I mostly listen to classical and jazz with some soundtracks thrown in.

Thanks for your support!

  1. Everyone here knows that my hands down favorite genre is blues:

SRV & DT – The Things (That) I Used To Do

Listen closely and you’ll hear that his guitar is being fed through a Leslie cabinet, in addition to a bunch of other amps.

  2. I honestly don’t have a favorite genre. I go through phases where I listen to certain things, a lot of times it’s based more on the artist than the type of music. A band I really like has a new EP out so that’s what I’m grooving to.

    Ganser – People Watching

  3. I’m not saying this to sound special, but I swear, I do not hear genre any more.  I think it might be the effect of having all music available all the time with the shuffle function, but I honestly have lost the sense to determine genre.

Here are five songs in a row that played in my headphones today when I was working. here.

      • You know, I truly cannot think of a single genre of music that I cannot listen to.

If you’re to expand your horizons, I recommend music historian Ted Gioia’s excellent daily recommendations.  He also does a terrific Best 100 recordings every year.  If you look through his selected articles list, you’ll find some of those best lists.  They are very interesting, across many genre (including classical).

      • @Hannibal – I’m a huge lover of Ralph Vaughan Williams – he composed around the first world war. I think he’s a good place to start – his music is always interesting and beautiful – no real dead spots.

        • @Lymond I listened to these on the morning walk. I don’t usually listen to anything because it can detract from the experience. But this elevated it. Especially when we got into the park and the winding path led us in and out of sun and shade, past creeks. It was so nice I’m going to add it to our morning ritual. I’ll probably listen to these exact pieces for a few days and then look for others. Thanks!

  4. I can’t say it’s what I care about most right now, but I just heard on the radio G. Love’s Baby Got Sauce, which hit the spot 20 years ago for the sloppy White guy/ laid back/ slouch in chairs with some beers/ genre.

    Along with Jack Johnson

  5. Well…I am with @luigi-vuoto, @hannibal, and @elliecoo as I can listen to ALMOST (all caps there) any genre…it depends on what I am in the mood for…from classical to [I can’t think of a new song that I like but I’m sure there is one that could potentially put me onto a path that doesn’t lead to “Old Man Yells At Clouds”?] possibly A new song?

I’ve always been a hip hop head, but I can’t stand the stuff I used to listen to and I CANNOT stand the crap that is mainstream “rap” today. I still love indie hip hop.

Is 80’s a genre? I am all about the 80’s!

I liked some 2000’s indie music but Win Butler just got #MeToo’d by several victims so now that is all I’ll ever be able to contemplate whilst listening to the following (which ruins it for me):
