DeadSplinter Up! All Night: Favorite Holiday Musicals

Anna and the Apocalypse is one of my favorite holiday musicals and since it’s beginning to be that time of year again, what are some of your favorite songs from musicals? Thank you for your continued support of DeadSplinter.

  1. …I don’t know about the holiday part but there’s an obvious contender for my favorite musical

…& then there’s another that might be less obvious but may have a place in my affections that predates it?

  2. Wow.  So many songs from musicals to choose from.  My friends all get a kick out of the fact that I love musicals.  But the great P.J. Proby singing “Somewhere” from West Side Story is very special to me.  I often sing his version in the shower, and my wife has said my performance is uncanny.  She’s said it almost sounds like I’ve got P.J. Proby in the shower with me.  I think she might be trying to throw some shade, but I choose to accept it as praise.   In any event, you can’t argue that his interpretation isn’t – shall we say – idiosyncratic.  I do love it.

  3. OK, you can’t pick a theme like “movie musicals” and not expect me to double-dip a little bit.

It’s probably obvious that I really like Rodgers & Hammerstein.

  4. I also really love “All Those Christmas Cliches” sung by Christiane Noll off of “A Christmas Survival Guide” CD  but I am going crazy because apparently no one in the whole world thought to upload it on the internet anywhere. Bah humbug!

Anyway, here is Susan Egan’s version, which is a close second

  5. I’m into comedy musicals more than others…

  6. I really don’t like musicals, and the holidays are tough. But I try very hard to enjoy winter.

    Trip Shakespeare — Snow Days

    Screaming Trees — Winter Song

  7. hey does the aristocats count as a musical?

its my favourite disney flick…i do so love the jazzy vibe to old disney flicks
but to be honest..almost all disney flicks have excellent soundtracks..its what sets them apart…they’ve just moved away from my taste in recent years…save for the froggy princess
