I figured this would be the case for many so I made a point to feature songs from before Bonnie left the group and from her solo career, but it is definitely a good thing that they decided to move on without Bonnie and create some great hits like this:

That story still cracks me up. I tried painting a kitchen on acid and it took me forever because I was so distracted. I can’t even imagine pitching a baseball game.
I once took some in the morning before school, not uncommon for me to go to school stoned, but I had drivers ed that day. Wasn’t worried because it wasn’t my turn to drive. Except my partner didn’t show up even though I’d seen her in home room that morning. Teacher made me take the wheel. It went about as well as you’d expect. He made me pull over and he drove back to the school. I skipped the rest of the day. Ellis was able to handle hallucinogenics better than teen me.
When I used to drink I was hardcore about not drinking and driving. Not so much when it came to taking acid and driving. One night I dropped some with my best friend in high school right before dusk. We figured that by the time we got out to where we planned to spend the evening, we would just start tripping. We were wrong. While still about 5-7 miles from our destination I suddenly was captivated by all the city lights in the valley below. “Look at the lights!” I said to my friend. “Keep your eyes on the goddamned road!” said he.
I got my first car around 1982, it was used and a piece of shit. After owning it for a year or so and not having the money for maintenance it became even worse. A friend needed to borrow a car one night so I lent it to him. He returned about 10 minutes later saying, “ I can’t drive that thing, it’s all over the place burnin’ and doin’ the Neutron Dance!” Beverly Hills Cop was a big hit and The Pointer Sisters we’re all over the radio with this song.
I had a string of POS cars when I was in high school and college. One of the running jokes at my first college was that every time there was a new semester I had a different car. $500 buys four wheels and an engine, but not much else:)
One thing that experience did was encourage me to make my cars last as long as possible. To this day I can’t fathom buying a brand new car, driving it for 2-3 years, then trading it in and buying another new car. Hell, my current car is 14 years old (I’ve had it for three) and with any luck it’ll be 19 years old before I have to dump it.
I’m sorry I haven’t been around much, but we’ve been finalizing our move to the country (we’ve been living half in town and half on the farm since January). I’m transitioning from a city boy (Chicago’s Little Italy) to someone with 100 sheep, 4 donkeys, a Bulgarian Karakachan, several cats and a horse, and it’s only taken 5 years.
Country boy is a big change for me. I was in my 30s before I learned potatoes don’t grow on trees. Animal life for me meant pigeons or squirrels – and the occasional rat.
Well, our particular Karakachan is pretty much useless for guarding sheep. She wants to play and screw around and have her belly rubbed. She’s a 100 lb puppy. That’s why there are donkeys. They donkeys are serious guardians for merino sheep. They get attached as if the sheep were all kin. I watched a donkey track down a sheep that got stuck in a little hollow during a wet spell and push her up the hill to the rest of the pasture. Our sheep are for wool only. Anyway, our Karakachan is a great pet, though I feel as though she’d gladly face down a bear if we were ever threatened. They have a reputation for being fearless. I can’t speak for the rest of the breed.
It’s funny that you say that. My nearest neighbor and her partner rescue male goats. Because they don’t give milk, male goats are seen as somewhat disposable, so they’ve got like nine of them that have the run of the place and keep all the grass and shrubbery trimmed. They built a little playset for the goats because they like to climb. They all seem to be pretty happy.
when I read the words ‘the pointer sisters’ my mind goes to
RIP Bonnie

Great minds think a like?
oh yes! the picture on the cover got me:
🙂
Soup Dragons – I’m Free
YAS
While the 70’s disco era was a time of questionable sartorial choices, the Pointer Sisters always managed to make it look good.
I did not really get this song till much later… Oh my naive childhood.
My sister and I grew up on this shit:
The Don Shirley Trio – Freedom
Because why not?
And because today is the 50th anniversary: Sprots!

I think we’re both lucky to be alive!
I’m perhaps this story’s biggest fan.
RIP Bonnie. I absolutely love the Pointer Sisters. For a group that lasted that long and had that many hits, I feel like they’re awfully underrated.
Yes We Can Can
Ty Segall – Freedom

You do what you have to do, right? It’s a pain in the ass at the time but it makes for some funny memories.

Very cool! Best wishes on your new reality, it sounds just lovely. Please give that good sheep guarding dog a pat from me.
Anyone displaying an official Deadsplinter lanyard is welcome to visit. We have a guest room.
I almost posted this!
I had to Google Bulgarian Karakachan. Does the breed make a good pet or is it just for guarding? It’s a pretty dog.

Okay, nose rubs for the guard donkeys, too!
A big fluffy pup and loyal donkeys. Sounds like heaven.
You need to get a goat.
for comic relief

Just watch out for those crazy rural mailmen.
