Remember going out on the weekends? Yeah. Me neither.
But, I thought for a change of pace, tonight we’d throw a Deadsplinter carnival! Complete with rides 🎠🎡🎢, food 🥨🌭🍦🍿, and entertainment 🏋🏽👩🏾🎤🤹🏻♂️.
🎪Admit one. 🎟 Come one, come all! 🎡
🎠 You must be this tall to enter. 🎢
Thanks for attending the Deadsplinter Friday Night Carnival DUAN and supporting Deadsplinter!
Every year, the highlight of my life was the county fair. I was in 4-H so we would literally spend the entire week there because we had exhibits and competitions. But, every spare minute I had, I would spend on the midway.
There was a concession trailer called Rosie’s Circus Diner. They served the best fair food ever, especially sausages and hot dogs. I ate lunch and dinner there every day. Most of the time, it was a foot long hot dog topped with chili–well, really it was smothered with chili and you could only eat it with a fork and knife because eating it with your hands was impossible. My mouth is watering right now just thinking about it.
MMMmmm…makes me want a chili dog.
Agree, although the so messy you have to eat it with a fork and knife part doesn’t compute. Never heard of such a thing. As long as you have a shirt at the fair you have enough napkins.
The problem was that I had to remain somewhat presentable for my exhibits. I was particularly proud of a certain Grand Champion Buff Orpington rooster of mine.
Good point, I’ve never been on that side of the fair.
Back when visiting the State Fair was an option (fingers crossed, at the end of this coming summer again) I was always impressed going through the livestock exhibits by the kids who were clearly staying overnight with the animals they had raised, waiting for their turn to be judged. I have to assume it’s a blast to be hanging out late into the night with the other kids, despite sleeping on cots next to animal stalls with no AC on a hot August night.
Real bad.

nice save!
My shipment of Usinger’s sausage came in yesterday. In there was a package of the best hot dogs on planet Earth. They are so good that they actually hit the national news in 2002. They were chosen to be the hot dog supplier for the Salt Lake City Olympics, and the committee had ordered something like a couple hundred thousand hot dogs for the extend of the games, in addition to all the other foods that were being supplied by other vendors. They blew through all the hot dogs in three days and had to place an emergency order to Usingers for more. These hot dogs are a mystical experience.
Would love to try them! Put them against our famous sausage maker

My family got a pack of Usingers sausages for Xmas, including the franks. I can confirm they are top notch.
I’m guessing you’ve never had a red hot dog from Maine.
If that’s one of those hot dogs that turns the water pink when you cook them on the stove, then no thanks.
Only a mutated cretin or a person from away would boil a red hot dog.

Here’s another incredibly famous song that you might not know came from a musical. Probably no one was more surprised than Stephen Sondheim at how popular it got, once Judy Collins got her hands on it. It was written for “A Little Night Music,” which is a wonderful show if you’ve never seen it,
Carnival, circus or rodeo, you need clowns!
More clowns. Insane ones.
You can’t have a carnival without carneys, barkers, and pitchmen.

The Magnetic Fields, “Strange Powers”
We don’t use the term “carnival” as we call it the “exhibition” which I guess is a Carnival of Sorts ?
…and ffs I starred @memeweaver post after only listening to the first song without noticing that they played this one directly after that in the same damn comment.
1. I was being a greedy bastard.
2. Studio vs. live versions — totes legit.
I’ve never been to a carnival so this is mostly inspired by the Happy Hour post. And tangentially related to this post because food and Kelis is a chef and now has her own farm. Her IG account is all about raising live stock and living farm to table.

If you’re a certain age you’ll remember this one:
