While this song is written in the voice of a man who wants a woman to move on to him, some lines speak to the human condition today. We all need contact and kindness and basic levels of safety.
For some of us, COVID-19 induced new levels of day-to-day uncertainty, or perhaps renewed them. I’ve not felt this amount of underlying anxiety, or been this unsettled and unsure since I was in my 20’s and dirt poor and in an unhappy marriage.
Here are the lines of encouragement from this song:
No looking back from here on in
Let’s move you on to better things
‘Cause you deserve more than you think
Forget everything you’re told
There’s greener grass and denser gold
I hope that we will see these days gone soon, but reality calls and says that our lives and activities are forever changed. I used to ironically joke that I was in college before sex and drugs could kill you – while not quite true, my wild days did happen before aids and crack. Now I wonder if we will be the last group of folks to have safely enjoyed large concerts, or public spaces without masks.
I wish you each a soft, gentle, kind evening. Thank you for your support of DUAN.
This one too: Everybody is a little bit broken but it’s alright by the Woods Brothers. Sounds vaguely Little Feat-esque.

Styx+Lawrence Gowan=Awesome:
Grayson Capps – Get Back Up
This was my theme song for a number of years, when the shit seemed like it would never stop and I needed some motivation.
I met Grayson after Hurricane Katrina had flooded out the area where he and his band lived. So, homeless, they did the only thing they could do: go on tour. They appeared on that radio show I was doing post-production for. A bunch of the songs on this album gave me the impression that he dealt with a lot of the same stuff I had; and not feeling like I’m the only one has generally done a lot to get me off my pity pot and moving forward again.
The Factory – “Gone”
just because
and it seems that we’re
…it’s time to
and
in order to
because only
“And if only I could tell everyone alive
That light is real and the heart is right and it’s not a lie”
Florist – If Blue Could Be Happiness
Things look bad, for sure
But I refuse to succumb to self-pity
Anyway, we’re gonna be OK, unless we’re not, but worrying won’t help
I blew it on the theme. I was focusing on feeling better instead of the gone and over part. I’ve mostly been craving pretty music lately. But anyway
Cream – Those Were the Days
I’m horrible with the theme thing…would this count?
“The best is the past”
Great thing about DUAN is you can’t have a wrong answer. You could go with whatever theme floats your boat in Elliecoo’s great post. I was trying to go with the positive thing since I needed that right now but could have easily gone with the gone thing since right now I want to social distance myself from some of the family…
Theme is always loose. And you never know when a dance party will breakout.
Did you say dance party?
Grace Jones – Pull Up To The Bumper
Dance party! Do Your Thing!
You don’t have to change the whole damn thing, just leave it a little better
It’s just as well we don’t know
When things will never be that good again
Unconnected to the intro, but this is great news that can’t wait.
There is going to be a special 420 edition of the Unnamed Temporary Sports Blog by the usual Deadspin idiots!
So in honor of the first home of DUAN and 420….
It just crossed my twitter feed, so I popped over to make sure it got shared over here, and THANKS!💖😉😁
Sam Cooke tonight. It’s not Saturday, but the songs kinda fit the theme, and I love ’em😉
And because at least we always have the party over here😉
https://openpsychometrics.org/tests/characters/
What TV character are you?
My best match was 84% Samantha Carter from SG-1.
83% desmond hume…from a show i have never seen
My closest match (86%) was apparently McLovin’ from Superbad…
Still haven’t gotten to see that movie😉
Next closest was a 4-way tie at 84%, of Luna Lovegood from HP, Ed from Cowboy Bebop, Damian from Mean Girls, and Abby from NCIS.
Annnnd, after reading what folks thought of the personality breakouts of those characters, I’d say YEP! Pretty accurate.
I’m an optimistic weirdo, and sometimes a total flake, who can be incredibly stubborn (and yet, gets shit DONE, when necessary!😉).
Looking at all 5 of those characters’ breakdowns, YEAH, lots of that stuff fits me!😆😂🤣
So…you sleep in a coffin is basically what you’re saying 😛
