Deadsplinter Up! All Night: Heart Attack

Our anniversary week is soon coming to a close. All of the stories, food recipes, open threads, and comments have been great to read over the past year. I’m going to give you one more to round it out.

Last Sunday night at 3am est. my heart said “Fuck It”. I woke up from bed with chest pain. After about an hour I realized I couldn’t walk it off so we went to the ER. On go the EKG pads, IV in the one arm, blood out of the other, and the mandatory Covid swab. The swab is as fun as everyone says it is.

About an hour later they drew more blood to check my cardiac enzyme levels. Then it is time for x-rays and a CT scan. After all that fun the doctor comes back to give me my results. A level of 53 is considered a heart attack. My reading was 52.9 so I like to say I had a heart event instead of an attack. Event sounds so much better, like a party. A really bad party but a party all the same. The doctor said it was a heart attack so I have to take his word for it. Bad genetics are a bitch.

The next day was cardiac catheterization, angioplasty, and two stents. I wouldn’t recommend it. Due to Covid protocols and room shortages I was discharged that night. Do you remember the Steve Carell chest waxing scene in The 40 Year Old Virgin? That is how it felt when they had to remove over a dozen EKG and heart monitor pads off of me.

Next week starts cardiac rehab. I could think of better ways to have celebrated Deadsplinter’s first anniversary.

Now lay it on me but not too heavy since I have a weight restriction.

  2. …I know we’re meant to pick tunes & generally the saying is “as serious as a heart attack” but I know of at least one person who could make that shit funny

…so I’m glad you’re still with us…& according to mr pryor I should probably be doubly glad you’re home from the hospital to keep teaching me all sorts of things I don’t know about music I sometimes even think I did know

    …be well…& I’ll stick to being grateful

  3. I wish you well, Keitel.  I had some plaque that had been hanging around from my bad old days break loose some years ago and give me a heart attack.  I got the stents and catheterization and had to take the medicine.  It took a while, but I came out stronger than ever.  You’ve got to stay well because I’m gonna need your help soon so I can post my first DUAN.
