Deadsplinter Up! All Night: Hearts of Space

Look at the stars! look, look up at the skies!

When I was young, there was a show that would come on in public radio in the pre-dawn of every Sunday. It was called “Hearts of Space” and was being beamed from something called the “Institute for Noetic Sciences” in California which seemed so hopelessly remote and exotic to a working-class Italian boy. The show was hosted by some space cowboy by the name of Stephen Hill and he was your guide through what he called “space music” which was basically anything he said it was, but mostly was esoteric electronica and early Pink Floyd-esque floating jams. I would set my clock radio to come on so that Hearts of Space would invade my dreams and take me to that inner-space Wonderland that grown-ups seldom understand.

I recently found out that Hearts of Space is still in production and HERE is the link. The Institute for Noetic Sciences is still around with a facility in Petaluma, California. It was founded by noted outer space explorer Dr. Edgar Mitchell who was no slouch in the out-there department.

What music takes you to the stars…and beyond?

  1. Back when I used to enjoy tripping, I found The Orb to be a good source of space travel…

Lemon Jelly is also great for space travel in your mind…

  2. edge of space…oh man….depends on what i am on

that whole album was a fucking trip….. (but you know…at the time i was on many more drugs than i am now)

    sooo… nowadays…something like this?

never gets old…..also ive reverted back to my teenage self….how cliche

    ….

in unrelated news…. the dudes in the flat across from me are definitely drinking and listening to musics…… i know…coz i am…. we’ve synchronised on smoking breaks and wave at eachother now

    we’re like…. smoking besties….

  3. I hated this show. Not only was it derivative and stupid, but CTV decided not to air the last 4 episodes of season 3 of Babylon 5 which ended on a cliffhanger in the 5th last episode and replace it with this and the Joey Woah Lawrence show.

Can’t stand those dumbfucks at CTV. When they bought out the Space Network aka Canada SF channel, it kind of went to shit.
