Eldridge Gravy and the Court Supreme is a band of funky freaks from Seattle. Live shows are like a party on the stage, usually with about 12 members on stage. If you close your eyes and listen to Eldridge sing, you would never guess he is a short freaky looking white dude. Now get up, dance and let your freak flag fly!
Let’s start with a funky little tune about an orange fellow you might know.
I’ve posted this one before but is an epic anthem for all you freaks out there with some great Seattle references.
and we’ll end this with some fun on the Fire Escape
Thanks for your support of Deadsplinter.
The late, great, Rick James – Super Freak
I can’t listen to this without thinking this…
Chic – Le Freak
Fun fact: Band member Nile Rodgers, who also wrote and produced the song, was the guy who produced Let’s Dance, which was David Bowie’s highest selling album. He also produced the Vaughan Brother’s Family Style album, which was quite a departure for the Vaughan’s, but the collaboration worked really well.
Nile was asked to play guitar on Mariah Carey’s first album. When he got to the studio, he asked the producer what sound he wanted. The producer told him he wanted what Nile did on Let’s Dance. After Nile laid down a track, the producer said that was great but that he wanted to hear the “other stuff” that Nile did on Let’s Dance. Nile asked “what other stuff?” The producer said, “you know, the blues stuff.” Nile informed him that he didn’t play the blues guitar on that album, that it was Stevie Ray Vaughan.
My kids hate me because of this song, it is my alarm to wake them up for schools since they were in elementary school. If they hear this, they associate waking up for school. I should be sad I destroyed this song for them but still just laugh. I am a terrible parent and they will write a terrible book about me someday.
I used to wake up Mrs Butcher’s girls with Papa’s Got A Brand New Bag. That big horn hit at the beginning really made them crazy.
ill go with night core….its my daughters fault
tbh…..i dont hate it
NoMBe Freak Like Me.
We saw him live – very good. He is Chaka Kahn’s godson.
Very cool…will be checking out more of this…
R3hab & Quintino – Freak
And Dead Ghosts, Freak:
serious psychedelic reverb and wa peddle on that guitar!
Another band I never heard of, but will be adding to my playlist. Love the horns, and those vocals, wow. If you like them you’ll probably like this. I expect most folks here have heard of these guys, they’ve worked with a lot of people.
The Soul Rebels – Get Freaky
I was not familiar w/ these guys but will check out more, like what I hear. Eldridge would usually play every summer on the pier near my house & was a fun intimate dance party kind of show. The Covid thing killed this year’s show but am hopeful for future.
There’s a freaskshow on the dance floor.
Mr America walk on by.
Wait, I got another one, good for an impromptu bump dance party if anyone is so inclined.
I’ve posted Betty before but I can’t remember what song. This one is perfect for tonight’s theme.
Betty Davis – He Was A Big Freak
Kitten Forever – Freak Noise
That’s very good, Keitel. Goes in the playlist.
