Deadsplinter Up! All Night: Indigo Jam Unit

Tonight I’m going to class the joint up a little.  Indigo Jam Unit is a Japanese jazz band consisting of two percussionists, a bassist and a piano player.  What drew me to this band was the way they layer sound and create moods.  Most of their songs remind me of the old spiderman cartoons where spidey would swing thru the city at night or some 1940’s detective movie.  They record while playing live and usually in one take.  Enjoy!

Thanks for your support of Deadsplinter.

  1. Deadsplinter is the gift that keeps on giving, I’ve never heard of these guys, Ellie”s submission or farsycthe’s.

When it comes to jazz I’m particularly fond  of old Big Bands.

  2. I love Indigo Jam Unit!!
This isn’t jazz and from a few years ago. Takenobu aka Nick Ogawa. He also does a super cool version of my favorite blue grass song Shady Grove.

  3. Japanese jazz has been hip for a long time.  The great Johnny Hartman knew this back in 1972, when he recorded this amazing album in Tokyo, with an all-Japanese band starring Terumasa Hino on trumpet and the amazing Mikio Masuda on piano.
