Tonight I’m going to class the joint up a little. Indigo Jam Unit is a Japanese jazz band consisting of two percussionists, a bassist and a piano player. What drew me to this band was the way they layer sound and create moods. Most of their songs remind me of the old spiderman cartoons where spidey would swing thru the city at night or some 1940’s detective movie. They record while playing live and usually in one take. Enjoy!
Thanks for your support of Deadsplinter.
Very good, thank you.
Here’s a little Polaroid Banana, from 2019.
This is super cool, hipster jazz!
oooo jazzy….ill trade you some jammy dodgers
Deadsplinter is the gift that keeps on giving, I’ve never heard of these guys, Ellie”s submission or farsycthe’s.
When it comes to jazz I’m particularly fond of old Big Bands.
Fletcher Henderson – Blue Lou
I love Indigo Jam Unit!!
This isn’t jazz and from a few years ago. Takenobu aka Nick Ogawa. He also does a super cool version of my favorite blue grass song Shady Grove.
Never heard of him, thank you.
Really, really like this stuff, thank you kindly.
Monster Rally – Menagerie
Never heard this either, I’m starting to doubt my DUAN cred.
Hannibal you have all the credentials, no worries!
Thanks, you wouldn’t know it by tonight, lol.
One of my favorite jazz musicians is Eric Reed. Super talented and down to earth at the same time. Nobody trills like this guy as evidenced here in Ahmad’s Blues.
Thank goodness, I know him. I thought I was gonna have to turn in my DUAN card.
He played for several years as part of Wynton’s septet, which is when I met him. If you ever get a chance to see him in concert I highly recommend it.
Will we ever be able to see live music again?
For the sake of society at large, I certainly hope so. I haven’t seen live music in over 5 years. Mrs. Butcher’s chronic pain condition makes such outings a non-starter.
i think so…gigs are starting up again here…tho..for the foreseeable future they are going to be wierd…and i have no idea how they are finaggling it money wise
like 2000 people in a football stadium…that cant be financially sound
tho…if i heard right on the radio i think we’re currently experimenting with also livestreaming gigs for additional revenue…not sure how that works..but i assume adds
Excellent choice!
Those guys are cool.
Happy, Sorry – Hiro Yanagida, another cool cat from Japan.
Another new one for me.
…must…resist…urge to post jazz flute scene from anchorman
…I’ll show myself out
Arguably my favourite song:
Midnight in Moscow
Well this is cool for about a minute, but then it doesn’t go anywhere:
Status Quo – Jam Side Down
Very groovy.
Japanese jazz has been hip for a long time. The great Johnny Hartman knew this back in 1972, when he recorded this amazing album in Tokyo, with an all-Japanese band starring Terumasa Hino on trumpet and the amazing Mikio Masuda on piano.
I have loved Japanese Jazz for awhile but before Indigo Jam Unit, my favorite was UFO

my favourite is tokyo ska paradise orchestra
(yesyes…i realize ska and jazz arent quite the same thing…but close enough…:p)
