Apologies for being M.I.A. this past week. Work and school (I teach high school English and am taking night classes for my credential) have been obscenely overwhelming as of late. Anyway on to tonight’s band, Diet Cig!
Diet Cig is an indie rock duo from New Paltz, New York consisting of singer/guitarist Alex Luciano and drummer Noah Bowman. As students of SUNY New Paltz, Luciano met drummer Bowman at a house show in 2014 when she interrupted his former band’s set to ask for a cigarette lighter. Bowman instead gave her a bottle of wine. Luciano had never played an electric guitar before forming Diet Cig with Bowman a few months later after their house show meeting. They released and EP, Over Easy in 2015 and their first album Swear I’m Good At This in 2017. Described by the New York Times as peppy, feminist, pop punk, Diet Cig released their latest single Night Terrors on January 27th and announced a spring tour of Europe and the US.
Thank you for your continued support of DeadSplinter.
The Psychedelic Furs – Heaven:
Don’t the Furs have something new coming out?
Yes, they’ll release ‘Made of Rain’ on May 1st.

Monkeyspank was a Baltimore outfit with the ridiculous configuration of 3 percussionists, 2 bass players, and one guitar.
…it might be hard but it’s certainly a fine & venerable tradition…even if the likes of Poly Styrene & her X-ray Spex wore pants from time to time…but I couldn’t settle on “a” tune from those ladies so I figured maybe this might be appropriate?
Here is last cigarette circa 1989. Not punk (Dramarama). But it hits the cigarette mentality.
Dramarama…wow…that is a name I haven’t heard in a while…I’d take my hat off to you…but alas I lack the photoshop skills for that sort of thing?
A lot of “what was that song by that band we liked” goes on in our house. As in can’t remember either name. But a few lyric snippets into Google – and it all comes rushing back.
I know it’s their most famous song, but anytime my local station played “Anything, Anything” when I was in high school, I used to blast it out of my car speakers.
The Men – Breeze
For fans of motorik. I’m obsessed but I told my kids I’d share the pain.
I think that might be good background music for budgets and planning.
…I feel sure there’s an ABBA/Abacus joke that ought to go here but I’m evidently too exhausted to think of it myself
I wonder what Lesley Woods is up to these days?
Au Pairs – Come Again
X – Riding With Mary
Unfortunately we know what crackpot Exene Cervenka is doing – spreading conspiracy theories.
X is the best. Exene though is not.
She was really mean to a friend of mine once because she was dating my friend’s ex-boyfriend. It ruined X for me.
It’s always the worst when the people who create things we love turn out to be terrible people.
And no need to apologize Boop. You still wrote more DUANs than I did this week!
Androids of MU – “Bored Housewives”
Not sure you can call them punk but these ladies really make me feel like wearing high heels and kicking people in the balls.
(Horror)punk? Skirts? Got it.
Wednesday 13 – Happily Ever Cadaver
