Happy Tuesday! Here’s Mdou Moctar, the Berber Hendrix. Mdou is a Tuareg songwriter and guitarist from Niger who takes traditional Tuareg guitar music and makes it rock. This first one’s a pretty acoustic jam, though. The lyrics go:
To all the beautiful girls in the land,
To all the beautiful girls in the land,
Beauty is not enough, you must accompany it with a good heart.
Beauty is not enough, you must accompany it with a good heart. It’s like the devil came with a scale…
It’s like the devil came with a scale…
To weigh my love against all of my doubts.
To weigh my love against against all of my doubts. To all of the beautiful girls in the land,
To all of the beautiful girls in the land,
Beauty is not enough, you must accompany it with a good heart.
Beauty is not enough, you must accompany it with a good heart.

The Mystery Lights
Love this
The devil??? The Devil, you say??? I feel like we should just post a picture of Mitch McConnell and leave it at that. GAH.
But no, let’s rethink this. Let’s try to be positive. Let’s try to be a Friend of the Devil.
YES. MDOU!
Right, and then some sort of devil theme….
Prolly (well, often) my favorite X song.
Another new artist, I’m learning so much here from all of you! Thanks Jonee. And the first one gives me my pretty fix. My picks, ah, not so much. But they were the first ones that came to mind.
The Lost Sounds – Satan Bought Me
And I’m a little embarrassed to post this next one. But I was a big fan of theirs back in the day and this one fit the theme.
45 Grave – Fucked By The Devil
You got it. I’m happy to help spread Mdou’s music. Thanks for reminding me about 45 Grave. I think.
Completely tasteless, lol. But they were one of the first horror punk bands so I have a soft spot for them.
Bombino, an excellent Nigerian musician.
Never heard him either, this is beautiful!
Nigeria had a bunch of greats
Him I’ve heard of. Thank goodness, I was starting to feel very out of touch!
